2.3 Galaxy clutch / gearbox question

Its a manual. any idea what the average life span of clutch and gearbox?

I recall at the time of buying ours that there seemed a lot of 70 - 80k cars with "new clutch and gearbox" in the add. Is the demise of these parts fairly common at this mileage?

The wifes car has done 75k. I have known about the very worn clutch for some time, but Ive noticed recently that its a bugger to get into second gear. Is this because of the very worn clutch, or is it because the syncro's are also wearing out? (hence the "new clutch and gearbox" I kept seeing on many cars of this mileage).

Clutch won;t be helping (obviously) so needs sorting out first.

weve had our 2.3 galaxy ghia since 2000 brand new and its dont 148000 miles on the original clutch and gearbox.
