Hi Everyone

So my 05 VXR 6l is in for a service, just been told that the disks are warped and I'm looking at £2k to replace them. I'm a bit shocked..

Done a search but can't find a definitive answer. Are they covered by Warranty? The car has only done 25k miles..

Waiting to hear back from Vauxhall..

Cheers

Worse case order spares from Oz. You can get DBA replacements probably half that price.

That is more like the price I'd expect for a brake disc. £1k each is frankly laughable - to put this into context you can get a set of four custom made high spec brembo steel discs *and* pads for a Porsche Carrera GT for 4k inc vat *fitted*.

I don't understand why they are so expensive - I can't believe that the brake discs on these cars are that bespoke that there are no suitable replacements.

Monkfish - any change the VXR discs fit the VXR8?

for new those monkfish prices look tastey or there are also PBR as thats who basically makes them down in Aus.

Are you sure they are warped? I often leave the car for a few weeks or so and sometimes the brakes feel warped but its not, its just surface furr and crap that with about 10 miles of dragging brakes and then sudden sharp short stabs resolves itself.

Oh dear Mike, that is rather a silly price, as I have just looked in Demon Tweaks new catalog and they are offering a set of up grade replacement rotors for the VXR8 at only £391.57 each and that includes the VAT. Lets hope vauxhall will play ball and change them for you free of charge.

I don't @25k miles they will get them replaced free under warranty. but on the other hand 2k is tantamount to theft.

Do you have any more info on the brake discs mention in demon tweeks? Be interested for reference - had a look on the website but it's not the most friendly to use when you're searching.

Mike they are called "Performace Friction Brakes" and these are a two pice floating type. This type allow for radial as well as axial expansion therefore reducing the chance of warping, and even if you do you can keep the bells and just replace the rotor, on the face of it, it sounds to good to be true!

As the people do it for the VXR8, I would expect them to do an application for the Monaro.

I have picked this up on page 71 of DT's 2008 performance and tuning catalogue, but I am sure these people will be on the www

How about these?

www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?N=&uts=true&Ntt=GD7299&x=10&y=15

or

http://rpmspeed.com/product_info.php?

According to my research these are the same size as the 320 x 32mm rotors fitted to the VZ CV8 (05/06 with red Corvette C6 PBR calipers)

You might have to check the VXR but I think they have the same rotors, just different calipers. They won't fit the 04 model as they had smaller/shittier brakes.

*Don't quote me on this, I'm just saying they look like they're the same*

Mine were deemed fubar at 7500 miles. Vauxhall refused the warranty claim, refused it again, and refused it a 3rd time (in writing). Although I accept that it isn't directly their responsibility, the "well known Monaro dealership" involved have been and continue to be FAR less than helpful. I've given them one more chance to help me, which they appear to be embracing with all the enthusiasm of a crack addict in a monastery, and I'm thus now contemplating whether to go to Trading Standards or to the press.

I've said before, I understand that brakes are not NORMALLY a warranty item, but for a set of brakes to fail beyond repair in 7500 miles on a £30k+ vehicle is simply unacceptable. What's worse is what appears to be Vauxhall's "Shall we pay? Oooh, what day is it?" approach to settling warranty claims. On the strength of this, they won't be seeing any of my cash for my next car......

Re-reading the OP, I suspect (and feel) that at 25k miles you haven't a leg to stand on really. I wouldn't have argued at that - but at 7500 miles is stung a lot more.

Mike if the worst happens I have my original discs and calipers from my car with only 3000 mile on if you want to save some money.

Check out the classifieds.

Yep - Absoloutly no budging at all, its £2k for me to stump up, they won't hear a word of it. Must admit I am slightly amazed at their attitude, and 25k miles inst exactly a lot - and the price? sweet jeesus!. Hey ho, might be time for me to walk away from Vauxhall and their "customer service"..

crisisjez - maybe I am being thick, but couldnt see them in the classifieds...

Cheers

To be fair 25k miles on a performance car discs could be warped due to misuse - it's harder to show that there was a manufacturing fault.

The warranty on the carbon brakes on porsche/ferrari fit is void after track use or excessive braking (its' logged in the ecu) regardless of mileage/cost
