kazaa buggered my PC

In a stupid moment of stupidity I attempted to download kazaa. All it seemed to do was install some stupid toolbar into IE.

I used Adaware to get rid of it but now I get windows in Internet Explorer that I can't close. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Not good Maybe a corrupt (e.g RIAA hacked???) version of Kazaa? Are you using Win XP - you could roll your system back to a restore point earlier today?

If not - do you know which version of Kazaa were you trying to install?

Well, thought I had. Removed some stuff and it seemed to fix it but not any more. Windows Update also seems kerf******

If your XP try using system restore - to a point prior to installing Kazaa.

Once its gone, download Kazaalite instead.

Nope, running W2000 unfortunately.

No need for Kazaa anyway now. I solved my needs elsewhere.

Symptoms are

- open a new browser window and I can't close it
- windows update program doesn't scan for updates
- Symantec anti virus buggered

That does not sound good, try uninstalling Symantec and re-installing it. Some Trojans are known to disable AV software, you could also try the free online tests to see if they pick anything up. Where did you download Kazaa from.....So I can avoid it!!!

This link refers to uninstalling Kazaa from a Win2K machine - I hope this might be useful.

One of the nasties incorporated in Kazaa is called Downloadware, the EULA for which claims that it may clash with various other software, so if it finds any it will remove it(!) You may find that you'll have to reinstall some of your applications - after getting rid of Kazaa.

Nearly sorted. SP4 re-enabled windows update and unregistering/deleting iexplorr23.dll and iexplorr24.dll got rid of a couple of parasites.

Just need to find a disc for Symantec now as that came preinstalled.

Had the same problem had to also check the registry and remove plants

Kazaa Lite is the only way to go unless you want the computer bloated with spyware.
