Little phrases, quips or mantras that are useful, amusing, or just plain good advice.

My rather arrogant favourite, which to me sums up the whole advanced driving ethos, and spoils the whole thread right from the off by not actually being about cars, is this:

"The superior pilot is the one who uses his superior judgement to avoid situations where his superior skills may be required."

Well, I think we have a winner!
hehe

Mods, you can lock the thread now.

Seriously, other than that, I can only think of the regulars - "brakes to slow, gears to go" etc frown

Till s(he) meets another with even more superior skills.
If we're talking combat.
"Bus driving", different thing.
So, on the Public Highway?.

One of our examiners (now retired) summed up the System as "brake until you're happy, then do everything else".

I prefer the (no flying specific) alternative.

"Don't use your skill to get you out of trouble, use it to make sure you never get into trouble in the first place."

Then we might have to consider differing levels of skill?.
My point above.

We are discouraged form teaching that these days, so I prefer to tell my pupils "if you assume everyone else on the road is an idiot, you'll be proved right more often than you're proved wrong". It isn't that all other drivers are bad, you just never notice the good ones whereas the bad ones stick in your mind.

My second peice of advice I got from my dad, if you see an indicator flashing, it's safe to assume there's a bulb in it (and nothing else).
