Test the spark, but be very careful when you do it. If its throwing fuel and air into the cylinders and you've pulled a plug to test it against the block, you don't want a fuel/air mixture being forced towards you by the piston then igniting by a plug. Gets very messy..

Do get spark, just seems to be putting way too much fuel into chamber. Ignition checks out okay, struggling with this one..Cheers for response.
Wouldn`t like to end up....

presume it is a 2.9? How strong is the spark? I have a 2.8 which I had the same problem with. First clean the plugs till they gleam, double check you have got the leads in the right order (don't laugh its easliy done), next check the coil, best way is to change it for another from Halfords and if it isn't take it back for a refund!! If it doesnt fire still try putting the plugs in the oven at gas mark 9 for 15 minutes refit then with thick gloves and then see if it fires. You might also want to check the timing with a meter. hope this helps

I would suggest you may all be in the wrong area chaps. Don't forget you can't change the timing on the 2.9 as its done by the ECU unless you have been messing with the distributer ( I presume you have not shifted this just because it won't start)

If you have fuel in the cylinders and a spark you should as least get a lumpy run for a few seconds.

Unplug the throttle pot when cold, put your foot on the pedal a bit and start it (try) If it bursts into life then there is a problem with the sensors somewhere which feed the ECU.

If it still won't start check the flow meters in the air filters are moving freely ( you may not have enough air which would give a rich mixture)

Now it could be one of 6 other odd sensors so try this lot out and get back and we'll see what we can come up with.

Good luck.

Gadgit.

Thanks for the help but unfortunately didn`t have the available time to do checks (work commitments;no rest 4 wkd!)so had to have her collected & spend few days in garage....It seems problem was faulty sensors sending wrong info to ECU along with dodgy coil! Also not helping the show was leaking brake servo. Still, first major problem in almost 2 yrs of ownership!!
Cheers Gadgit, Bondingi, Psychobert (where does that nickname come from...?) & Marcus for your replies!!!
The weather will probably change in Lancs now..
