Hi all, i'm hoping for some help from more knowlegeable people than me as I am pulling my hair out with a starting problem. I've had my 97 XK8 for some 6 months now and have had no problems with it at all during that period. Went to it yesterday and it would not start, no firing at all, not a thing. I have read some of the info on this forum and other forums and tried to follow there guides, but still nothing. Here is a list of things done so far:

Connected ODB2 reading device which shows no faults.

Changed plugs and put a slight amount of oil into the bores to create better compression.

Disconnected the battery for a while and tried starting it with my foot flat to the floor.

Checked fuel cut off solenoid, which is OK.

Shorted relay to Fuel Pump and the fuel pump operates correctly.

Swapped Engine management system control relay in fuse box B with a known good relay.

Checked all fuses and all are OK.

It does have a Nikasil engine but I have just imported this car from the USA where I am led to believe that sulphur in the fuel was not an issue over there.

The engine just appears to be dead. I'm not sure if there is a spark or not, but I know there is not a great deal of fuel pressure. There must be something that is common to both of these or does this car have an immobiliser that will give these symptoms. Any ideas where to look next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Rick

Why do you say the fuel pressure is low? have you put a pressure guaage on it ?
You need to check to see if you have a spark, just pull out a coil, put a plug in it, earth the plug, and crank it over. have you done a compression test ?
any strange noises on cranking, might have a broken or slipped timing chain.
have you got enough fuel in the tank.

The immobiliser will not allow the engine to crank, so it won't be related to that.
Let us know how you go.

Had this with my XJ8, try having the compression checked out (blow-by Test) mine was 25 which is not brilliant but I have been told the engine is getting ready.
