Brain fade moment, put about £5 worth of petrol into wifes diesel disco 3 before realising. Call the dealership and had it recovered. Had to turn the engine on to get it from park to Neutral.

Will know later the cost. DoH.

I've doen this before in a ford (only a couple of quid) and heard of many other people do this before ....

I'd always been told that for petrol in diesel provided it's only a little was to fill the tank with diesel and just run it through... Given it's only a fiver so that a gallon in a big tank...

this worked for me...

having said that - extended use can play silly buggers with the fuel pumps/injectors but be careful that the garage don't try to screw you on this.... it's in no way as bad as diesel into a petrol...

SImes.

its only a 1 yrs old disco 3 car and under LR warenty so I dont want to mess around and not get it sorted correctly only for a problem later on and then not be covered by the warrenty. Our car ins will cover the cost less excess. So a supid mistake.

we dont even have a petrol car now! last petrol one was about 4 mths ago. I though I was putting in super duper diesel,- vmax diesel, turns out to be vmax petrol. Did think about filling the rest with diesel as was fairly sure it would be ok that way around. But not willing to take the chance on it when it cost a fair bit to buy 6 mths ago.

live nd learn.

Turned the ignition on or the engine on? Either way, I would of searched for the fuse for the lift pump - then presumably you are only looking at a drain and refill?

engine. LR are saying cost about £750 to fully clean, drain, remove and replace parts. If actually driven then 2-3k. As its under warrenty we need to go along with what LR head office prescribe as the right way of doing it to prevent a problem in later years.

Ins co will pick up the most of the cost.

I agree. I think its over the top but to maintain the LR warranty thats what they want done. So dont have much option.

Sorry, but they are raping you. NOt your fault but it has been bandied around in the UK that you need to replace all sorts when you put a tiny bit of petrol in the diesel.

The Mrs was on business in France when her colleague did this in a Merc. She rang me, I told her to tell them just to drain the tank and not to do anything else. She told the garage, a french Merc Franchised dealer, who loooked blanked and asked what was she expecting them to do? Seems daft when Landies are designed to run on all manner of crap fuel around the world.

if it was out of warranty - I agree. Drain down and re-fill. TBH I recon with the £5 worth of vmax petrol then mixing in with £70 odd of diesel it would have been fine. But we cant take the risk of voiding the warranty.

The ins co are inspecting to see how far the fuel has got in the system and then go from there. Trouble is that will come out within 5 days - so wife and 3 nippers dont have a car. Lucky I have a G4 defender and we can all fit in that.

Wow they are rip off merchants. The indie place in Surrey in Chiddingfold for LRs would charge you about £40 plus replacement fuel. It is such an easy job and they know it !!!
My wife did the same in our merc. Local garage charged me £40 incl replacement fuel.
they really prey on the hysteria that surrounds this topic.

AAAAAgh, managed to put 15 litres of petrol into my diesel van a few days ago. st, so topped it off with 45 litres of diesel and started praying.

After doing a couple of hundred miles I have to say that the van probably runs better with less smoke out the back. No idea what the long term effects will be.

i put £7.00 of unleaded in my disco tdv6 and thought st.....

So i then filled it up with diesel to the brim.... never noticed a thing..car still going strong....

whats all the fuss about...?? we used to put small doses years ago for the winter when diesel didnt have the addatives like they do today to preven freezn.. im fully aware that diesel engines are more advanced with common rail etc..but I think with this small amount from the original tag, you could have done what i did and saved yourself some money

sorry to be the one to say after the even as there is always someone..

...or the emergency park release? Presumably there's one somewhere - a lever or pull cable hidden in the centre console somewhere.

Hope it gets sorted quickly for you.

I've put a few gallons petrol into the wifes diesel rav 4. Filled up with diesel and ran it through. Everything fine. Just be careful not to put it under full load or it could pink a bit. Landrover quote seems very steep.
