Last June, my Mum purchased a Jazzy 1103 electric wheelchair for £3,300 for my Dad who was recovering from a stroke. Within a week of it arriving, my Dad when downhill and passed away a couple of weeks ago.

The company that sold it to her offered her £200 to take it off her hands which I think is disgusting. It's never been used or taken outside (still has protective wrapping on some of it).

She's not expecting the full whack back by any means and she's quite keen to get rid of it as it's the last "medical" reminder of what my Dad went through over the past few years, lingering about the house.

Anyone got any pointers/recommendations - would be much appreciated.

(My Mum lives in Upminster so any pointers in that general direction would be great).

Steve Thanks for your mail.
Let me know where you got this from and i will contact them and see what there response is, and also know someone in the BHTA who no doubt will like to get involved as these sort of people are getting us a bad name in the industry.
Cheers Dave

Ouch, they offered her £200 as in a £3,100 loss or £200 less than the purchase price?

StevieBee,

YHM

I work for a mobility company, as the engineer, but obviously have seen a bit of the sales side.

I've seen the direct sales boys sell at twice the going rate and then when the person dies claim the balance from the widow/er.
And to be fair some dealers are not much better as StevieBee has found out.
In my opinion there are to many people out there willing to rip the elderly off - don't get me wrong every company needs to make a profit but there is a difference between making a profit and ripping people of.

Sorry rant over!

Not being too nasty or anything but the resale price of mobility products is a bloody wierd thing!

Not wanting to name too much is a company which shares its name with the nodding dog off of the telly, They sold a few products which at the time(they may still do) offer a buy-back policy.. I think the stairlift at the time was a curved one but still the only offered around 10% of what the old codger paid a short while previously! I know a curved lift is fairly specific but still even the carriage is worth at least a few quid!

It might be worth advertising it in the classifieds in your local paper or maybe a classifieds in a mobility magazine? You may have the usual backstreet w*nkers offering you peanuts but you may have some serious private buyers.
