I hate to say it guys, but I just got a 6 month old XKR and wow - what an amazing car. Having owned the AMV8 i was a bit anxious about feeling underwhelmed with the jag, but (i say again) - wow what an amazing car . It has everything the AMV8 had and (i think) more. Feels more powerful - it is perhaps not as nimble as the AM but for my style and type of driving it is more than adequate. I am actually amazed at how similar it is to the aston. The auto box (vs manual on AM) makes my life considerably easier, and is actually one of the smoothest autos i have driven, and you have the option to flick over to flappy paddle whenever you want. Interior is as good (probably better)and much more user friendly than the Aston. Perhaps the only think i would like to see is a digital speedo for ease of speed adjustment when approaching those yellow boxes!
Now I know it is not an Aston and deep deep down it doesn't quite have the sense of occasion you might enjoy in an AM, but think I agree with the journos (for once). Bang for buck it is a better car.

I'm off to hide now boxedin

Pipe and slippers are in the post...tata to you!

ps have been thinking about loads of things to post here, but I realise there is no point, trying to justify a XKR over a AVM8...really now...who are you trying to kid..yourself maybe!

Styling wise, the XKR is better than the AMV8 in my opinion.

Cheaper too, and more dealers, probably more reliable as well....

And it has more buttons in the interior. And the numbers on the speedo go higher too.

If an XKR floats your boat, happy days. Money in the bank. And I'm sure one or two will agree.

But life's too short IMO...

Had a look at an XKr on my travels up north. Styling wise it doesn't really impress, a few fussy unresolved details are apparent, like wise the interior felt a little low rent after being sat in the vantage - in fact it felt almost like i was sat in the S-type loaner car....

Jags are growing on me though - it's that sublime ride that is enchanting. Maybe I'm getting on a bit now...

It's good that we all have different tastes. Don't knock it.

Though it's odd that people loving their XKRs (no issues there) are spending time in the Aston section...I'd have to ask my dad where the Jag section is biggrin

Don't get me wrong the Aston V8 is a gorgeous car, as all Astons from the past 15 - 20 years have been, but I slightly prefer the XKR, I think it looks more of a beast than the Aston does, and I kinda like that. The Vantage makes a nicer sound though it must be said.

I'm an XKR owner but have a love of all cars, that's the reason I frequently spend time in here and the ferrari forum etc biggrin

Maybe you should have a go of your dads XKR you might find the reason why some of us chose it over the V8V biggrin

John, IMHO, there's a difference between having 'a love of all cars' and posting a negative comment that will get a reaction unless of course you are the kind of person that will run into a butchers' shouting 'I'm a vegetarian!!'. What purpose does that serve? In this case, you've followed the original poster into the shop and said 'So am I!' Perhaps Jag owners are bored in some way with the Jag forum? confused

Exactly, what was negative? I was just having a bit of banter hence the smilies biggrin and the OP was just giving his impressions of his new car coming from an AMV8, I don't really see the problem here....

OH MY - everyone is getting very protective . . .

Over the last year or so that i have followed the aston forum there have been numerous comparisons made - AMV8/DB9/DB7 etc vs Porsche, M3, Jag etc etc

What I had always noticed was a lot of people passing judgement on the cars without having driven/owned them - lots of people made comments without having owned either! Normally just reciting what the journos have said.

I was not trying to 'bad mouth' the aston - i think it is a great car, just not perfect.
The only real point i made was 'bang for buck' i think the jag is a better car/purchase. Most of us don't have an unlimited cash supply and read these forums to gain an insight to ownership etc. As such if you were considering spending £60-£65k on a second hand car, which would you chose an early model AMV8 or a 5 month old XKR - having driven both my opinion is the Jag (for the money) is a better car/purchase.

If money isn't an issue then great . . .my opinion is of no interest to you
