Just wondering if there is a viable alternative to dry sumping. The Americans seem to buy loads of Canton, Kevco etc sumps with traps doors, baffles and stuff, but I see that even Canton recommend the use of an Accusump as well.

Anybody got any experience?

Almost all Ultima will be running a winged, trapdoor sump with an Accusump except for those running dry sump.
The acceleration, braking and cornering forces possible with an Ultima make the above almost a given.

Here's why I am installing a dry sump currently. Previous set up, Canton road racing pan with 3Qt accusump. During prolonged right handers at the track, oil pressure would drop to 2 bar. I had to overfill sump to prevent such a drop in oil pressure, but this caused excessive windage and oil usage at the track.

Anyone want a Canton pan and accusump (less than one year old)? Willing to take 1/2 off.

Apologies for poorly worded post. Have just bought the car off that nice GTR-Gaz and have 4 trackdays booked for April.

So I guess what I'm asking is, whats the chance of it surviving without a dry sump?

If you need a spanners man to come along to Brands, then give me a shout!!

Nice car, and good to see it kept in the fold!

Based on Lucky's past experience with engines at Brands I would suggest you don't invite him!

Hi Pete,

Whats all this talk of spanners, surely Ultimas are too reliable to need much of that !!!!!!!!

The plan for April:

7th Castle Combe
12th Goodwood
Both these very gentle getting to know the GTR
Set suspension up with the Stig/Plans at Top Gear
21st Goodwood
30th Castle Combe

Got to cobble up some Goodwood friendly silencers double quick. Really looking forward to Silverstone and Snetterton.

Poor little cars going to have a busy year (SBC permitting that is ........

How is/was your Accusump wired?
Did it switch directly from the ignition or from the oil pressure switch?

It is recommended to wire an on off switch separate from the ignition so that you can shut off the accusump while still at high oil pressures and not waiting for a hot idle oil pressure. It also gives you more control on preoiling and shuting it off should it be necessary. At least that is how I understand it.
