The other half is looking at a Golf Estate to replace our aged A6. Seeing as the only petrol option is the 102PS 1.6 we'tre looking at the 2.0 140PS diesel. I had a look at AmD and Superchips and I see that engine has good gains from being remapped.

I wonder if the dealer would offer such a service and still maintain the warranty?

Doubt very much !! Im remapping my Passat 1.9 tdi 130 soon, gonna set me back £250 but will produce 180 bhp and 280 lb-ft. These guys do organised rolling road day here http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?...
They seem to have the best feedback, search around at www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/ for answers too.

My local Renault dealer offers superchips, with warranty backup (they'll basically bear the brunt of any related claims rather than passing them to Renault) so it's possible you can find a VW dealer that does the same.

Try calling a few independant dealers rather than those owned by the big dealer chains, or perhaps the chip manufacturers themselves and see if they deal with any main dealers?

Superchips offer a 12 month warranty. IIRC there are some chips that cannot be traced or maybe Bluefin is reversible.

I'd have a good long, hard look at Superchips' track record for problems before commiting. AMD on the other hand (have not used them personally) have a very good reputation.

They may very well warranty the chip but what about any component which fails because of the chip, i think thats what the OP was on about.

Yeah I don't want to fork out for a new motor and invalidate the warranty right away. Think I'll be making a few calls tomorrow.

I remember SEAT offering upgrades from the 115bhp diesel to 130bhp via a remap a few years ago and wondered if VW might do something similar. I also remember one of the lads at work getting his Audi chipped by Lomond Audi in Glasgow.

The warranty that I had stated that it covered anything that could be attributed to the installation of the chip. This included drivetrain, engine, etc.

Listers Audi used to offer remaps (on Audi's obviously). They would use AmD, at a HUGE (and i mean something like 200%) mark-up. Peace of mind comes at a price I guess. So it may be that the Listers Group generally offer them, I don't know if they have VW dealerships?

Personally, I've used AmD for a remap, and 4 yrs / 40k miles later I have not had any problems at all (related to the remap).

My understanding is that AMD still do remaps for Audi/VW main dealers.

Interesting. I asked one of guys at the local VW garage yesterday and he didn't know much about it.

Had a drive in the 2.0 TDi Passat and Golf Estate. The Golf was the better of the two mainly for the ride quality, less body roll and more comfortable driving position.
Oh and the mirror switch on the Passat broke as well!

If your cars standard apart from the chip, a dealers not going to start looking for one if engine parts fail!
