Please, please, please, pleeeeeease can anybody help with this one..
I have recently bought a fiat twin cam westfield and want to fit a heater. I was told an old mini one would do but it wont fit under the dash...there is no room under the bonnet...is there a smaller heater that anyone knows may do the trick ? it is a narrow bodied pre lit one by the way...

Many Thanks and here's hoping like you wouldn't believe...

Hows the heater plan coming along?

Reason I ask, when i got my westfield a heater was top of the list of 'must-have's' However after a year or so I actually bi-passed the plumbing because I didnt want the water just sat in the matrix over winter.

Although because its possibly going to be sold so I'm just thinking about re-plumbing the heater back in.

Also - to be honest, I found I was getting more heat out of the gator round the gearstick!

One of the 1st things I ditched, got rid of about 15 Llbs of useless weight. Why do you want one ? I never got any benefit from it or missed it even slightly once it was gone. Unless you are driving as your only car in winter ( if you are you are insane) I cannot see the point.

Thanks for the info/comments chaps. I will try the dax heater. I definately do not intend to use it in the winter and the only reason i have bought it is to slow me down as i have juat dumped my cbr600rr bike !!! Apologies but you will hear a bit from me over the next few weeks as i am trying to finish off this Westfield but as it is a pre lit model some of the bits are not available from them.. Maybe you can help with this then.......As it is a pre lit would it be wise to try Caterham bits ?????? For example i am going to get a hood made for it but it has the 2 bar roof fold system whereas the wesfields are 3 !!!Would the caterham one fit ? the windscreen and the windscreen mounts look the same A type shape ones as the caterham and i have just bought the alloy westfield ones as there is less movement side to side on it.. (not fitted yet so i will soon see).

Thanks again..
Andy.

Andy.
Hi Andy!

Mine is only a 2 bar system - or are you counting the Roll bar as the 3rd? Either way mine is a bit of an older westfield being a 1992 narrow body, it has two bars that rattle around. To be honest - much like the heater issue - the roof doesnt get used much!

Tell you what might be worth looking into, and these in my view are an awesome solution (saw them at Stoneleigh kitcar show two years ago - great design / quality / and GREAT company too) made to order, specially to fit your car.

Halfhoods - they look cool & a bit easier to get in and out of.

Cheers..that half hood looks bang on..... I am defianately going to get one on it.

Its amazing how quickly you guys help each other. My head has been buzzing over these problems.......

Within a day i have a far better idea where i am heading with it..

Not wanting to sound like a 'billy no mates' but if anybody who has experience (or has one)and lives in the Bolton/Radcliffe/stoneclough area i would be very keen to see what you think of it..

Thanks again and i will welcome any other suggestions... As for the half hood its a no brainer i have to have one..

thumbup No worries - Believe me, the amount of beers I owe people on PistonHeads for helping me with problems in the past (not just car related! I even got my mortgage sorted in the Pie&Piston!) I'm only too happy to help!

Softbits for sevens were really friendly & helpfull - hope they get you sorted out. I saw them first at the Stoneleigh Kitcar Show - but I'm sure they propably go to others too. They really do look excellent & add quite a modern twist to a classic looking car.

I'd love to have a butchers at your Prelit (friend of mine had a 1988 Prelit... loads of fun but needed lots of tidying up jobs) But I'm southwest Midlands Based. I'm fairly sure there was next to no difference between the hood on his and the hood on my 1992.

Stick some photos up here if you can, I was going to put mine up for sale this week, but after driving it down to get it MOT'ed today (it passed!) its going to be a tough decision if I do sell it frown

Are you a westfield club member? if not get in touch with them & find out when and where your local members meet - you'll never be stuck for a helping hand then!

ok theyve changed the heater to what i have but still looks like a small unit:
only pic i can find: some blokes dax heater

Have to agree with others on here tho.. in 8 years of different sevens i dont think ive ever actually used it.. other than for cooling the engine in really hot traffic jams...

If you want to, you can upload a photo straight from your PC onto your member profile page.

But for posting photos into threads you can use a site like photobucket.com - sign up with them and they let you keep your photos in an online folder. Then, from that folder you can use the [img] tags that they give you to insert a particular photo straight into your thread here.

Look forward to seeing that twin cam thumbup

Another heater idea is to wire in a couple of small 12V fan heaters.... Lighter and simpler to install than a full heater system.

I might actually try that as it is looking grim or expensive as the search for something to fit goes on.

As most of you suggest its not worth having one but does anybody know how effective the 12volt heater is ?

Thanks.
Andy.
