Hi all
As you may know already this year at S Club we will be trying to raise as much money as we can for the Leukaemia CARE charity, which is actively supported by our S owning friend Gerald-TVR, aka Norman Farmer. You can find more information about their work here http://www.leukaemiacare.org.uk/Index.asp
On the day we will be holding a raffle and, to encourage you to start saving your pocket money to buy plenty of tickets, here are the prizes we have generously been offered so far...
As at 10/5/08
Shell - Ferrari racing jacket
TVR Car Club - £50 voucher
Pistonheads.com - One prize of anything from PH shop up to £50 PLUS another prize of anything from PH shop up to £25
TVR Power - £150 voucher towards parts, service or dyno work
Absolutely Shocks - 4 wheel alignment, to be used at either Torque RVT or Offord Motor Company

We are also in contact with several other companies that may offer a prize of some sort. Additionally if anyone reading this is involved with a business or knows of someone else that would be interested in offering a prize, TVR related or otherwise, please email me through my profile.
Cheers for now,
Longers

I have got you a box of our Langs Leather treatment for your raffle. This is the very best leather feeder in the world unfortunately it is no longer available as the inventor "Mr Lang" died and never revealed the formula for it.
Thank you to the above for your support.

Looks good.
I don't want to detract from the generosity of those donating prizes, because it's greatly appreciated - but few of those prizes would be any good to me, for example, because I'd have a 700-mile round trip or more to visit any of those places, excellent though they are.
There are currently 6 of us coming down from Scotland, who would all be in that same position.
Is there any chance of some S-related prizes that are are more portable (or at least usable wherever you are in the country)?

I take your point but 3 of the 5 prizes listed so far ARE for parts that could be sent by mail regardless of where the winner lives.
All I did was contact any of the businesses that advertise in Sprint or get mentioned in these forums that I thought will be of interest to S owners (and there were quite a few of them!)
What you see above are, so far, the ones who have been willing to support us and the charity.
With members coming from North, South, East and West it's always going to be hard to please everyone. But, like I said above, if anyone knows of any dealers/suppliers etc that they could ask to donate additional prizes then great, the more prizes we can have the better it'll be on the day.

Ian, rather than hard to please, I would suggest impossible we are a wide spread and very varied group. I take the point made regarding location etc., it is well made. I guess that by the nature of the beast (a once a year national event) there will always be difficulties generated by the problems asscoiated with distance.
Approaches to companies, organisations and individuals have of course been made by volunteers in order to boost interest for the event and raise some much needed funding for a worthwhile charity. I suppose the natural result of this is that the majority of contact is with people located in the same locale (or thereabouts). It would be very difficult to make much wider contact than has already been made but I'm sure if people wished to do so the help would be gratefully recieved. Any additional offers made would only add to the event and benefit the charity.

(maybe I could offer a free electrical health check

but did you write to any breweries ?

and is there a way of linking these smilies which appear to be a process flow of my life ...

maybe the kind sponsors could make their prizes transferrable so if distance is an issue they could be sold to someone else ? just a thought ...Dave_M said:

ACcept that point as well but there is nothing up here for TVR owners. We have no dealers and only one "specialist". If they donated to the raffle it would be no use at all to any of you down south.Approaches to companies, organisations and individuals have of course been made by volunteers in order to boost interest for the event and raise some much needed funding for a worthwhile charity. )Interested in the 3 new companies that have been added, and it's obviously very generous of them to take part - but again, limited value to those of us who don't fancy a 700 mile round trip for alignments etc, and who have reasonably new suspension and SS exhaust, and do our own servicing.
I agree that there's maybe not a lot you or they can do about that.

At any event the raffle & prizes are, to me, put together for 2 reasons....Interested in the 3 new companies that have been added, and it's obviously very generous of them to take part - but again, limited value to those of us who don't fancy a 700 mile round trip for alignments etc, and who have reasonably new suspension and SS exhaust, and do our own servicing.

1. The raffle to raise funds for people (like Gerald TVR) who have chosen to help people in less fortunate situations than themselves, in this case those suffering with cancer.
2. The prizes to give people buying the raffle tickets an incentive to support the charity (if they need one) to pull £1 or £2 out of their pockets because there may be a prize that interests them.
Dave M and myself have sent loads emails and made plenty of phone calls to generate as many prizes as possible from suppliers far AND wide. However as you'll understand I cannot name and shame those that, for whatever reason have chosen not to contribute a prize

Some of the prizes are for vouchers that can be used for parts which are not tied to a location e.g. the £150 from TVR Power. If you think your local specialist (that I think I have already contacted) would be interested in donating a voucher or anything else then please get in touch with them and let me know.
Whichever of points 1 & 2 above is most important to anyone and what charities people want to support is up to each individual to decide. If people do not want to buy a raffle ticket at S Club 08 they should not feel they have to.
For those that do and win a prize that they do not want they could sell it for, say, £10 and donate the £10 to the charity or simply ask for it to be drawn again?
Whatever, I am hopeful that we will sell some tickets on the day to help out a well deserving charity.
Here's to a great day

I'm sorry, you're right of course, and I wasn't trying to pee on anybody's chips. It's a great event and the raffle is only a small part of it. It's just unfortunate that we have next to nothing for TVRs up here, I think that's more my gripe.
I can't really contact the one local specialist - I've never used them and they've never heard of me. Not exactly conducive to persuading a prize out of them!
Well done to everybody for the hard work so far!

Hi, I didn't realise there weren't any dealers left in Scotland, that's a great shame especially with a great bunch of guts who'll drive a heck of a way to meet up
I'm really pleased with the raffle prizes, as Longers said we've put in a fair bit of time thinking about it and then talking to companies/organisations/individuals who are TVR asscoiated. I'm very impressed with the generosity of all who are supporting it and trust the charity will benefit appropriately.
My next problem: a pass out to join you guys Saturday afternoon or night for a beer
I went past the site today and it looks a very large area!

I never win anything so buying raffle tickets is always a charitable donation as far as I'm concerned - that's the way I look at it anyway - no probs if its for a good cause although I suppose the idea that one day I might win something does help....

And what makes it a great event is the selection of cars and people that turn up, some like your crowd from many many miles away. Look on the bright side though, you'll be able to have a great blat in your cars to get to S Club whereas I'll have about 20 mins
