Audi TT v Porsche Boxster (or other options)
Discussion
More specifically Audi TT Cabrio Quattro 225 v Porsche Boxster 2.5/2.7
Does anyone have opinions on what's the better car?
Similar performance on paper
Both odd looking (IMO)
In summary.
The mother fancies a change, and asked me what I thought would be a good choice, she does like driving the Audi. The only similar car I could come up with was the Boxster. Would servicing be similar (main dealer) bearing in mind I would have thought the TT was a bit more complex?
Any other issues to consider in the switch from a TT to a Boxster?
Anyone who's driven both have an opinion?
Cheers

Haven't driven a 986 boxster, but drove a 987 and that was a brilliant car to drive. The engine was also far more charismatic than the one in the tt. Have only driven a coupe 225 but the steering was lifeless and I should imagine the roadster might not be as stiff as the boxster. The engine felt pretty powerfull albeit soulless, much like the rest of the car. It was quite understeery when pushing on too.
Servicing wise, I should imagine that the tt will be cheaper as it will be easier to work on than the mid engined boxster. Parts are also likely to be cheaper for the audi and as is the labour.

I have one and have driven the other.
The TT looks better and its power delivery is much more exciting than the 2.7 boxster. The interior is also much nicer! On a twisty road the boxster would eat a standard 225 alive, but how often do you really get to have a "proper drive"? Upkeep and maintenance would be similar, though the Porsche would be the slightly more expensive of the two.
The TT is timelessly desirable.
The boxster is a poor mans 911. (Fact)
Totally unbiased opinion.

In the Boxster VS T.T.
The Boxster is without doubt the better 'Drivers' Car.
Two close friends of mine have an 02 Boxster and a 57 Plate TT. However nice the TT is, the Boxster feels a lot more 'special' and the noise from the 6 cylinder BOXER is very nice indeed!
The Older TT is a reshaped MK4 GTi and didn't exactly have glowing reviews.

I must admit, the Audi feels well built, interior is nice, and what i've seen of the earlier boxsters, the interior looks a bit, cheap, but having not driven one, I don't feel I could really comment.
The TT is a capable car.
Don't think she likes the Z4, but I'll suggest it as with the S2000.

I have a 228 bhp 2.7 986 and its miles better than a TT to drive. The TT feels like a heavy car and understeers like a pig. The Porsche is beautifully balanced and quicker by nearly 4 secsonds to a 100 after flying about with my mate in his 225bhp tt there is no comparison. As for the Boxster being a poor mans porsche bollo**s the TT is a poor mans Boxster!!! Also forget the 2.5 its just not quick enough and for what more it will cost you could have a 2.7. Engine wise althought turbo delivery is more exciting the old 1.8T cant even be compared to a Porsche flat six, sound gorgeous when revved..The TT looks better and its power delivery is much more exciting than the 2.7 boxster. Z4 3.0 sport would eat both for breakfast
No it wouldnt if your talking about the 231bhp Z4, Boxster has a far better chassis and performace is like for like against the 228bhp 2.7. nothing in it. If your talking about the 3.0SI Z4 then surely a 986 boxster s is a better comparison!!Edited by TOENHEEL on Friday 4th April 16:36
Four wheel drive understeering Audi vs mid engined Porsche? That's an easy one
Bear in mind the engine locations as well, the Boxster has a much lower CofG.Boxster every time

The two cars aren't even in the same genre are they? One's a driver's car and the other is a Golf hatchback in a pretty dress for motorways and city centres.
