I'd like to be able to access the file system on my iPod Touch directly, primarily to install a few applications which are currently unavailable through Installer.app.

I may be looking in the wrong places, but I can't find any instructions for this.

Has anyone got this cracked? smile

Most of the stuff I've seen mentions WinSCP (SFTP for copying files) and PuTTY (SSH command line for issuing Unix commands to the phone).

What Dude said. WinSCP allows you to drag and drop files over.

Thanks guys - works a treat smile

However, simply copying the unzipped .app folder into /Applications on the Touch isn't enough to make it work. Do I need to add something else elsewhere?

You might have to set the permissions using chmod?

I've been using installer.app for my iPhone...that is really easy!

Good call on the permissions - the main file wasn't set to executable. smile

It's easy unless the application you want to install doesn't install properly using it, which is my problem here.

Hmmm... I tried to set a single permission for a single file.

One restore later yikes the Touch is working again - I'm not sure what I did there! hehe

I connected using putty; is there a specific way to disconnect prior to closing putty?

"logout" on Mac. YMMV smile
