I've restored the seat frames and had the seats re-trimmed all I am short of now is one of the plastic covers for the seat reclining mechanism. To save me a lot of time searching, does anybody know what vehicle the seat mechanism comes from?

Thanks Ian, I have never followed up on Douglas Valley before and now I find they are only about 20 mins away from where I live! I'll make a call in sometime soon and see if there is anything else there of use to the S forum.

Richard

I was in Douglas Valley a few months ago they had the remnants of two S's in, both had seats which were trashed as they had been left out open to the elements. I can't imagine anyone would have bought them, so you could be in luck for the covers.

The Plastic Covers have got to be Ford... I cant see them being TVR bespoke, so Fiesta/Escort would be my guess

like these perhaps (I havent got a pic of mine to compare...)

I suspect you are right, I was just hoping not to have to 'trawl' another breakers yard! Especially as few now keep 'old' cars for long. I will have a look to see if I can see anything that would fit OK, a bit more sleuthing!

The original seats were made by Callow & Maddox and stem from 1974 (I sell the the seat foams and headrest foams 1974-91) there was a generic change in frame design in the early 80's that the seats then have the plastic covering over the later style mech. so you will find these on Tasmins too. My thoughts are that you will only find these on TVR's.

Hmmm, not such good news Adrian. I did notice that there were no marks at all on the damaged plastic covers, and I would have expected marks had they been of Ford origin. The search may have to be for something that would make a good alternative, although I will look around any other TVR's at Douglas Valley to see if I can add any info.

The only linked thought is the last of the Reliants.

I did look a few weeks ago in TVR world to no avail.

I know this sounds weird but I think they come from a land rover defender

That wouldn't surprise me at all, it is a good thought and I will follow it up and let members know.

Well I can definitely rule out Landrover Defender seats! They are definitely not the same (however if my seats were wrecked I reckon I might be able to adapt a Defender set). Douglas Valley have 2 S types at present but there isn't much left of either. By an amazing chance however there was one intact seat mechanism cover....the correct side! Guy was helpful however and would check out the wrecks if anybody rang him, it is a well organised yard.
