I might need to go into cambridge in the morning and buy a 3g dongle..

Anyone care to offer an opinion on which to go for? only for email and a bit of browsing whilst I'm away so a couple of GB per month will be fine.

The key thing is that I can buy it in a shop..

TIA

Don't know about a shop, but I'm using an Novatel Ovation MC950D, and it's stable at north of 6Mbps (application layer) on my network.

I don't do HSUPA yet, so I can't comment on that, but the card claims to support it so it should be future proof.

I know you said you wanted a "shop" product - but Expansys have the 3 cards for around £70.50 - even with next day delivery that's a £25 saving in your pocket smile

We use T-mobile data at work. Can't fault them, but we use the cards rather than dongles.

had my 3 broadband and my mates T mobile laptops side by side on sat to do a speed comparison.we both selected the same sites such as piston heads Hsbc bank etc.and the 3 Dongle was at least 3-4 secs faster at down loading each site.so for speed 3 was the clear winner..

Coverage is arguably as important though.

I've got the T-Mobile USB stick. It's brilliant. £15 per month all in (24 month contract) including unlimited WiFi hotspot access as well.

Can't go wrong.

In a single location I assume.

Do it for 100 random locations across the UK, and it might be a valid test.

I have to recommend T-Mobile for the following:

Customer services are EXCELLENT - based in the UK and have the ability to sort things out straight away. (Assuming you register with T-Mobile as a "business" customer - tell them you are a sole trader, and that's fine.

Speedy dispatch. They first sent me the "wrong" modem (USB cable dongle not the stick) this was changed over next day.

It works well.

That's why I'd recommend them wink

T-mobile, speed = great, cell stability = cack

That's at cambridge airport BTW.

Arguably far better Ts & Cs compared to the rest though.

T-Mob for T&Cs. Similar to Voda for "Business" customers. It really does make a difference !

Cheers people,

Some investigation into the place I'm going tomorrow (and need connectivity) reveals that ....

Vodafone does not work...at all.

I've been before with orange and that was rubbish...

So.. I've got a deal on 3, the deal is get a phone with then for 6 months... get half price dongle for £18 months...

If it does not work I can take it all back next week..

fingers crossed..
