The standard instrumentation is housed in a pod in the center of the dash. How convenient is this compared to getting a stack dash and mounting over the steering wheel? What have others done for a pod cover for a stack dash? Is there one that can be purchased without fabricating? I didn’t see a stack dash option.

Does anyone know of a better visually appealing, but highly functional dash other than the stack dash that can be mounted above the wheel?

There is no problem with the instruments in the centre, I’ve been driving a JBA Falcon like that for 10 years. Ted likes them in the centre so potential customers can see just how frightened they should be.

The factory does a pod for the Stack unit but I was advised that the Stack backlight can be a little bright and reflects up onto the screen at night. The advice was to extend the glass fibre pod so that it covers the Stack a little more. I did this with body filler.

I think Motec do one but it is expensive and aimed more at racing. You must have one that has an odometer.

Here's what we did with the Stack. Not sure if you can see the small shield on top of the unit

There is some problem with the lighting at night. The blue backlight reflects off the windscreen, but the digital readout is very bright and cuts down on your staight ahead night vision. I've been talking to a Stack engineer, and he's checking into whether a dimmer switch can be installed.
If I were to do it over again, I'm not sure if I'd go Stack and have to keep scrolling to see all the info I want as opposed to an instrument scan. Being able to set limits and have a warning light activate is nice though.

Another alternative I looked at,

Stack also makes an 80mm round unit with all of the track day data I would require. This could possibly be used in place of the factory tach. This would help maintain the factory look/feel. The tach would be close enough in view that it would be very functional.

What is the bezel width of the factory tach in the pod?

I have the Stack ST8130P with the factory supplied pod. Excellent unit, very neat and extremely accurate.

Don't find night driving glare a problem at all?

Maybe I should take my shades off?

Here is an alternative to the STACK and ALOT cheaper and easier to install, and alot smaller.

It has an Odometer so should be street legal. I use it on the race car, but there are some on the road.

Take a look at:

www.aim-sportline.com/auto/dashm3.htm

Depending on exchange rates, they are around the 600 quid mark fully loaded.

I have a factory stack pod spare....
I'm sure I promised it to someone on here who was going to collect it at Donnington last year but it never happened.
