Hi, rapidly approaching 40 and a midlife crisis ( jan09) we were discussing in the pub how to celebrate, with 4-6 lads going on the lash for a couple of days... Now Dublin has been done to death, and when 2 couple went to NY we only really scratched the surface. so were looking at a 4-5 day weekend.

Now obviously the stanard hotels are easy to find, but we fancy going a bit more native, something like a guest house or B & B in greenwich village.

any locals out there that can give us the heads up would be cool, and any ideas on non touristy but fun stuff to do would be cool.

The best fun we had last time was we ditched the wifies in macies ( after the empire state building)

we just jumped on the next subway, headed out to the top of central park, bimbled round for a bit, headed over to Greenwich village found a bar, had several beers. another subway to brooklyn, found another bar, walked back over the brooklyn bridge, then on to the oyster bar atgrand central station, before finally meeting back up with the girlies at the ice rink in the park.... slightly drunk by then <LOL>..

Cheers

Hi,

I've rented an apartment in the past on the Upper West Side, should be cheaper than a hotel.

try this site:

Graham,

I'm lucky enough to live in NYC, however, when I hit the big 40 I went to Vegas, which was a blast, especially a place called the Toy Store, which is a gun shop which allows you to try out all manner of handguns & rifles. Given how strong the pound is against the $ I guess that there must be some good deals out there. Good Luck

Whoops, sounds like I'm seriously out gunned there! I agree that once you get off the 'tourist trail' in NYC there's a lot more to see, although you I have to say you covered a lot of ground in your first trip with your journey over the Brooklyn Bridge.

If you are over in January consider heading to upstate New York for some winter sports (if time allows)
