Halfords have a handy booklet on display for cross referencing. (ie replacement parts to VW, not TVR.)

i never do! for £2.50 though it's worth replacing if you get any over-heating 'moments', as the cap can leak/not open when it should, causing air-locks etc.

Have just noticed this thread,,, my blue cap seems to have 'hissing' sounds coming from it (expansion tank) on my Chim 450. I am wondering if this is the cause of my engine temp saying at 90 degrees, whatever the climate and however I drive it!! If I buy a new cap, do you guys think my temps will return to normal, ie- 70-80 degrees in normal conditions, as it use to be??

Cheers

Chris

When my Griff came back from a service I noticed they'd put something akin to vaseline on the rubber seal inside the cap. So I guess this can perish/crack etc.

At least that proves they really did service it!

Yes indeed, and more than a certain independent near Cambridge - eg exhaust manifolds not tightened, steering column UJ not greased ('oh it's very thin grease sir, hard to spot')
Clearly I do look like a fool!
