Curious about answering correctly the 'what type of immobiliser' and 'Thatcham category' questions as part of the insurance quotation, I thought that if anyone knew, Vauxhall customer services would. Coz they surely have access to everything anyone would ever want to know about what's actually in the cars they flog.

They said 'Unfortunately Vauxhall do not hold the information regarding immobilisers,... may I suggest contacting Thatcham ...who will be able provide you with relevant information.'

Tried that, got cut-off after being re-directted to 'the lab' - what's that about? Is there some bloke in a labcoat with an anorak-sized memory on Thatcham certification?

Does anyone know - or has no-one ever had to be that specific with insurance quotes?

As far as I recall it's not Thatcham approved as such but is regarded as equiv to Thatcham 2.

I think.

You can download all the Thatcham approved vehicles in a PDF on their site http://www.thatcham.org/security/index.jsp?page=75

No Monaro there though. My Insurer was happy enough that it had a factory-fit unit.

Hi had to get new immobiliser system when i insured mine changed it to a clifford 5.5 great system cat 1 !
The scary thing it tho when it was being fitted the fitter showed me how easy it would be to start the car on the standard alarm with a teaspoon.

Hey that sounds cool. Does that mean we just need to build a flip key type and walk around with a tea spoon LOL.

Cheers
