We have been offered some cheap sony laptops from a chap who has good seller feedback on ebay and a vat number but not a lot else.

The deal he is offering us is stunning however I'm a little sceptical. He would like bank xfer before he ships. This is not something I'm going to do. Is there anyway I can verify he is legit?

Should I have posted this in general gassing? Or B2B?

anyone else know where I can get very cheap sony kit?

Can you not contact buyers that have used him via EBay for more info?

WATCH OUT

everyone is getting laptop scammed atm

Ask him the following 2 questions

a) Can you collect them as your around his area on business (no means WARNING, unless he foreign)

b) Lets use ESCROW, I will pay the Fees, is this ok with you (ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for him to say no)

This means your protected both ways, and also know he is legitimate.

GL and be safe

Mate got done for £1k on a laptop a few mths back, luckily I advised he use Credit Card to purchase.. so he FINALLY got the cash back.

BEWARE!

Could you offer to send 1/4 of the balance (or 1/2 or 1/3 depending) now and the rest after goods have been shipped and received?

Just a thought?

Why not offer to collect with a bankers draft or cash, or to meet you in a convenient location - I would not give him money without seeing / collecting goods.

Still no response from him re me going and getting them. Maybe it is all a bit tricky for him.

lol

he has now responded by saying if we send him the cash for one he will send us two as proof of his honesty..

Hmm reduces my exposure by £4k but still not sure.
I've asked if I can go and get all that he has in stock, we'll see what he says to that.

If this does work out I'll pass he details on as it is a very good deal..

You send him money for one and he doesnt send the 2 - hes the winner. Or he does send the 2, you send the rest and hes only sent you 2 laptops and got all your cash - hes still the winner.

If he says he is legit get them all by collection yourself.

Obviously your a grown man, but

dont let a penny out of sight until you have the goods

this is where escrow is useful.

You pay the money to Escrow firm (www.escrow.com)

he sends goods, you like, you release funds, you dont like / dont get, you dont release funds.

you rip him off, he contacts escrow, makes his case, gets funds if he can prove ripoff.

So your BOTH protected against fraud.

anyone who WILL NOT accept escrow, imho, is someone i wouldnt risk dealing with.

1) only offer collect and pay cash,

2) Use Ebay Escrow Service.

3) if you do buy them use your credit card

4) 2 weeks ago i remember on some news channel 2 40 tonne lorrys were nicked with there cargo of Sony and panasonic Hardware. I think one of the drivers was killed as well.

5) if it sounds to good to be true it often is.

6) if you buy offer a small deposit for him to release a Postage tracking number phone the postage comapny and ask were that parcel is being shipped to if it is you then all should be ok but im rather sceptical

Hmm, well he is not responding to my offers of picking them up for a bankers draft of cash so I guess it is a scam.

Bugger we were all getting excited about new laptops.

Anyone able to get us cheap sony gear and actually get it ?

make sure you report the auction to ebay if it is a scam.

They are actually getting 'not so useless', at taking them down.
