Don't do what I did and ignore all the warnings about throttle cables. Went to my car at lunchtime - where has my pedal gone! After phoning all the main Ford dealers and motor factors within a 50 mile radius the best I can do is tomorrow morning, oh b*@@*~#s. I will now make sure I carry a spare, RAC man due out at about 4 o'clock. The reference number is Motorcraft 6720349 I think.

Its happened to all of us at one time or another ...have you got any string.. ? you can bodge it with that depending on where it broke.

Indeed.. thats a good one.. in fact you can wedge the cable into the slot using the formed plasitc end as a "chog" so to speak and as long as you are gentle with it it can get you home..

Cheers
Matt.

If it breaks at the pedal end (this seems common) you can cut the outer back a few inches and use a big cable screw terminal connector as a DIY cable nipple to get you home. Also, TVR use a suitable clamp on the heater control valve (by the throttle assembly) which you could use if you got stuck.

Apart from the cable do not forget to buy an End Retaining Clip Motorcraft 6142979

Matt,
How quickly we forget, is it old age, premature senility or the hang-over

Thread from Thurs 12th September 2002:

Feeezer ? Huh..

..my throttle cable just went straight in, one end thourght the existing hole in the bulkhead, a quick routing of cable across the engine, then clip it into the throttle assembly. The other end, slot plastic bit into slot in the top of the pedal from inside the car.

Skill level: 1

Tools required: Flat screwdriver to remove clip holding cable in place at "engine" end.

Time: took me about 5-6mins but I had a cup of tea at the same time, reckon I could do it in under 2 if I had to.

Cheers
Matt.

Now fit that clip!

But the clip doesn't break on removal, it just slides out, then back in again.

I just put the original clip back in place, wheres the mystery..?

Matt,

The clip does indeed slide on and off, however it is relatively small and there is a distinct possibility that it might be dropped and lost especially at night or in bad weather.
My point is that for the cost of the clip it is worth having a spare with you if you are going to the trouble and expense of buying a spare cable.

No mystery! just commonsense IMHO
