Whats the difference in spec between the normal XJ, the XJ sport and the XJR ?

I know the XJR is the supercharged animal but what about the sport model, what does/doesn't this have as regards extras ??

If the sport model is the 3.2 did the ever make a 4.0 non supercharged in this range, i.e. the models from about 97-02.

You can find the brochures on www.jag-lovers.com hopefully you can find all the details there. Not sure about the X308 version but for the X300 (94-96, inline 6) they did the sport in both 3.2 and 4L version.

The Sport specification was an option on the 3.2 and 4.0.

The 3.2 was fitted with touring suspension as standard, and the 4.0 has sports suspension as standard.

You could specify an additional Sports ( a no cost option in 2000 ) pack on both cars which comprised colour coding on the body, different style of seats, sports suspension on the 3.2 and black door and window surrounds and dark wood trim. As well as this you could also have 17" Celtic alloys.

The XJR has CATS suspension and the 4.0 Sovereign had touring suspension as standard

Thanks for your help, don't think i've ever seen a 4.0 Sport model advertised, let alone a 4.0 litre model.

So although you can find alot of 3.2 Sport models they probably haven't got a sporty suspension !!

I don't know about the X308 model (V8) but for the X300, the Sports had sport suspension and sportier seats. My impression on driving the a non Sport, a Sport and an XJR in quick succession was that the Sports suspension was not as firm as the XJRs but much better controlled than the "touring" option. It was the setup I preferred.

On the X300 range (94 - 97) there was a clear difference between options. On the next model (X308) with the V8 you could almost pick and mix whatever you wanted.

There were even options on the wheel type and tyre profile.

The difference in ride quality IMO is much greater between the two versions on the later cars.

My XJ8 is fitted with sports suspension and 17" Celtic alloys - but has the classic wood, light interior, normal seats and the chrome pack fitted. This suspension / wheel combination is probrably the firmest you could get, and IMO it's too hard for a really good ride quality on the poor roads we suffer in the UK.

On the flip side 'tho the handling is brilliant for such a big heavy car. It would run rings round my previous X300 fitted with touring suspension and smaller wheels - and would almost match Mrs JS's GTI down a twisty B road if only you could keep your arse still in the slippery leather seat.
