Morning All

Whilst I was at my AM dealer on friday they were telling me that they have a massive stock of new 08 cars that they are trying to shift. Deals are available and as we near the arrival of the 09 model the dealers will be desperate to move the 08 cars.

If you really want one now is the time !!

Anyone had any experience with dealers shifting stock?

what would you think you could get from them?

You need to look round and get very savvy with what prices are being offered on nearly new cars. Also understand new car pricing and the options list inside out.

They are much more able to deal on dealer spec'd cars than on one that you order new.

5%-10% off list for a dealer spec'd new car might be achievable depending one what the spec is and what else is available.

If you are taking a dealer spec car that they have in stock then 10% is possible.

They are equally 'able' to deal on factory orders - the dealer margin is the same. Just unwilling when they've got half a dozen cars parked in physical stock costing them £XXX daily rental for up to 180 days - at which point the manufacturer will invoice them for the car and it will be a 'fully paid' unit hence strangling cash-flow - hence more willing to deal on these. Supply & demand dictate discounts (as ever) - there is no financial advantage for them to discount a factory ordered car.

In fairness most dealer stock cars are specced to arrive with the "right" options anyway so you only need to factory order if you want an esoteric colour combination, if you are happy to take a popular/sensible (however unimaginative) colour combo then why not buy a stock car?

What about used Vantages - the best going rate for an 06 plate, around 10-12k miles, seems to be £60-62k at (non AM) dealers; maybe £60k privately. AM dealers such as Stratstone add another £5k on top. All these are pre-negotiation prices.

I'm after a meteorite silver, seemingly one of the more popular colours. What has anyone paid for similar cars recently?

Sold my May 06 V8 Vantage, paid £89464, sold back to Stratstone the supplying dealer after about 11 weeks out of action in 21months £60000 cash.
8056 miles. Was offered £62000 if left with them on their display until a deal was done...........my nose is still bleeding and I will never have an Aston Again.......given new engine models coming out I would be wary of the price falling further on the older cars.

Thanks Colb2. How long ago was that? Bit worrying about the 11 weeks off road - what was wrong?

12th March........It was said by the Dealer Principle that unfortunately my car was blessd with everything and anything that was known to go wrong with a V8 Vantage....and since mine was the first car they sold upon opening their new dealership it acted as (quote) "a bit of a guinea pig for them regretfully".... Generally on delivery and within 2 weeks, clutch smells, bodywork corrections necessitating tailgate entire re-paint, first to second gear selection, headlight condensation, headlight alignment, squeaking brakes, squealing belts/ac/pulley alignment, corrosion, oil leak, dry sump valve.....and subsequently whilst these issues took over a year to bottom out, disagreements over annual service cost as against offset cost of warranty work done at the same time....then window electrics, door locks, more corrosion of trim, tailgate buffers, and reverse gear jumping out. Other issues not reported were a general plethoria of interior trim rattles and squeaks and paintwork chipping that was more evident of 100k miles not 8K........for me the whole Aston experience did not meet expectation.....win some lose some I guess!

You were unlucky. Some of the problems you had were apparently things that AM resolved very quickly after launch, others I think you were umfortunate. I have an 06 06 and have done 30k and it has been ace! 1 warranty visit other than routine servicing. Guess if you were with a new dealer that may not have helped.

1 warranty visit = ace?

Delighted that you are happy, but the quality threshold is always rising and AM are still followers not leaders. I've had my Aston for 7 years and 40k miles, longer than any car I've ever had because I like it, but the five Audi Quattros I've owned would put its build quality to shame, as would either of the Ferraris I've had.

FWIW, Whilst the dealership location was new, the staff were experienced hands transfered from existing Aston dealerships which gave me every confidence at point of sale.
It stands as the worst car I've owned for not reaching reasonnable expectation...at least for the money it cost.

Im sorry to here about your experience frown

Its a terrible state of affairs for sure, but kinda par for the course with hand built cars. No-one really knows just what the quality stats are except for the manufacturer themselves. They know how many cars theyve sold and how many claims theyve had etc and will of course be doing everything they can to recitify this as each claim costs them money to put right and is ultimately coming off their bottom line.

Its damning when you read about it, especially on a car you are about to buy, but you would get the same on any car forum, any marque. I know people whove had terrible experiences with Ferraris, Lambos, Lotus, Maserati etc frown

Forums are generally where people go to have a moan and see if others are having probs, so you can get an unfair view of a product as there may be another 80% of owners that are happy and never go on the net ....I work in a manufacturing industry and we get just that - we have the lowest real failure rates in the industry, and the best quality (proven - as we know the stats!) yet people will often remark how the forums are 'full of people with problems' ...errrr...thats because thats what they are for and because 10x as many people buy our products each monthwink !

i'm in the process of looking for a 2006 - V8 Vantage after selling my TVR, what discount do you think a 'aston dealer' would be prepared to knock off in this current climate as i guess it must be effecting them at the moment...

To put the question differently, how new a V8V do you have to buy to make sure that you get one with the problems sorted out?

Meteorite with Iron Ore - common I know, but how good does it look?
