Hi all,
My girlfriends 2001 fiesta has started hesitating and misfiring when cold. it runs fine when warm and even ticks over ok when cold, Tried the haynes book but was useless. Its the ohv endura e 1.3 engine, it doesn't even have a temp guage which is less then helpfull.
any idea?

If its injected, it could be the cold enrichment system at fault, either the actual injector or the ambient air temp sensor. Or maybe the thermostat.

Sorry, not helping much.

Yeah its injected,
what really annoys me it could be any of those and the haynes book says none of those can be tested apart from the thermostat which I changed 5000 miles ago when I gave it a service, will test that anyway.
In my opinion most sensors can be tested with a multimeter If you know what the correct readings should be.
It doesnt even show a picture as to where the coolant temp sensor is.
I guess i should have known better as a ford fiesta is such a rare car!

I agree that most sensors can be resistance tested, however, in my experience, the majority of manufactures dont list the test spec.

Most tend to list diagnosis by replacement.

Cheers for the replies anyway, the car is going to a garage as much it goes against the grain. if it wasnt for the fact that it is our only means of transport (my cars gearbox is in my shed awaiting parts) I would be sorely tempted to remove the pushrod boat anchor and fit a zetec in its place.

Nowt wrong with that pushrod motor, bit of attention to detail and they can make very good power.

Its not to far removed from the old kent engine.

Hope its nothing to dear to replace anyway.

Really? I was very surprised by its lack of go for an engine of its capacity in a small car (when it was running corectly). maybe the engines a little tired. I was quite shocked at its stone age apperance when i looked at it.

Sorry but they are pretty crap, a poor relation to the original Kent engine. They share almost no common parts with the Kent either, so none of the tuning parts will fit.

I suspected it to be poo, however ecu light on now and running badly most of the time suspect o2 sensor, found a tame mechanic with a fault code reader who will plug in for free (cash a bit of an issue as not working due to injury). £75 week don't cover the mortgage.
