Im looking at 172/182 cups and lot sof the cars have got "cup pack" or "both Cup Packs" in the adverts.

Would someone be so kind as to enlighten the uneducated and let me know what the cup packs are what would be the "ideal spec" car?

thanks

Regarding the 182,
There were three options when bought new, a 182 CUP a normal 182 with CUP packs or a normal 182.

A 182 CUP is supposed to be slightly lighter than normal as climate control is removed, as are the xenon lights, they also have a slightly different interior - Although on paper, acceleration times have minimal difference with the normal 182.
A 182 with CUP packs include darker coloured alloys, stiffer suspension, stiffer tyre sidewalls, a larger roof spoiler and front splitter. They also include the luxuries which the 182CUP doesnt (Xenons and C/C)

Best option is the 182 with CUP packs, and if you can find one, the recaro seats - will help residuals as well as better the driving position.

I have had a 172 Cup and have a 182 with both cup packs.

To expand on what was posted above.

172 was only offered in 2 specs. 172, or 172 Cup.

The 172 Cup was around 80kg lighter than the 172 with lighter alloys, no ABS, no TC, thinner glass, less sound deadening, etc etc. It also had revised suspension geometry and 20mm wider front track.

They are great on track and the fastest of all of the Clio's (bar the V6's), including the modern 197's. They are very basic though.

182's are as explained, but to explain the cup packs further, there were 2 options.

Cup suspension pack - anthracite alloys, revised steering and suspension geometry
Cup spoiler pack - bigger rear spoiler and a front splitter.

These could be ordered individually, or both - hence "Cup packs" if bother were fitted. Most of the time the cars were order with both, or neither, rarely just one or the other.

The 182 Cup is not the hardcore car that the 172 Cup was as it was only 20kg lighter than the normal 182. You lost some extra's and the seats are low spec. Generally they are not desirable as you only gain a tiny fraction of performance, but lose a load of nice bits. It also only came in 2 colours (racing blue or inferno orange).

I'd go for the 172 Cup or the 182 with both cup packs.

Watch out for 172 Cups that have done a lot of track miles - I know mine did!!

Great little cars.
