Speed Guns In Builder's Vans?

Are Derbyshire police now disguising themselves as builders?

Rumour has it that this boring old blue builder’s van may not be as innocent as it seems.

Blue van seen in Derbyshire
Blue van seen in Derbyshire
Photos of the van, seen in Derbyshire, started circulating on the web and the suggestion was that it is in fact a speed camera van in disguise.

It could be the latest sneaky tactic the police are using to snare motorists after they were caught using a horse box recently.

One website has already done a check on the number plate and indeed it did used to be white, so perhaps someone has forgotten to tell the DVLA about the change of hue.

But interestingly the picture below it is from the Derbyshire Safety Camera Team website.

This organisation is a road safety partnership consisting of Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire County Council,Derby City Council, Highways Agency, Derbyshire Magistrates Service and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Now, look very closely at the second picture and see if there are any similarities between it and the blue van.

You have been warned…

Yes, but not as illegal as speeding. So that's ok.

So, if it isn't marked as a police vehicle, one would assume it's a builders vehicle and let the tyres down. They wouldn't be able to do you for Obstructing then would they?

But the buildes van is too clean - no one would believe they were real builders!!! I mean how can the local yobs write "clean me" or "bazza woz ere!" on the back?????

Very sneaky indeed - I will need to keep an eye out for "clean" builders van's in the future!

Or maybe you could call the police to arrest the "builder" for "Impersonating a Police officer" biggrin Or perhaps the BiB are moonlighting and using the (hastily re decorated) firms van? biggrin

I think thats utterly outrageous.
Whoever sanctioned such an appalling monkey-spinning exercise (why else!) should be made to publicly explain why they thought it was a good idea.
Just incase any wants to know, I shall be repainting my Clio in a police paint scheme, as surely the opposite is true, non?scratchchin

Yep, because whether your guilty of obstruction is a matter of fact (letting down tyres is actually criminal damage). The officer doesn't have to be in uniform, or in a marked car etc for you to be guilty of obstruction.

I got caught by a burgundy 'Fruit and Veg Wholesaler' in Wales whilst visiting the World Rally Championships in 2000. Imagine the hardware buzzing obliviously past it? For some reason I never got the points, thought it was because the law stated that all speed camera vehicles needed to be clearly marked etc. If this van is painted in such a way then maybe it is a road traffic survey van or such like. If this is the case then I'm all for it because they are more likely to catch the idiots doing something stupid, something they wouldn't do if they saw a marked up camera.

Not sure I'll chance it though if I'm ever up that way!

Edited: (Got the picture and intended prosecution, that's how I know I got caught!)

Is there a chance that the fuzz sold the van on and it's just some builders parked up having a cup of tea?

No?

Didn't think so...

Another Sympton of 'out of control' money grabbing madness....

Seriously though, are there no other 'offences' being committed?

Is this the prime briefing in the morning for Police forces across the UK ??

Blimey....what a country! We have problems with vandalism, criminal damage etc etc
from the local Chavs, local Police force havn't turned up once! Too busy setting up
stealth cameras!!

If they did this in known crime spots, communities across the UK would be much better off!

It's not a prime target. The vast majority of Police officers issue no speeding FPNs year on year. A much smaller number of people issue a hell of a lot.
