Hi,

Just had a discussion about this. There is a line of thought that when on the piagé you can have your ave speed checked by the operator from the time stamped on the ticket, any thoughts? (apart from the obvious smile )

Jesus this old story still exists? No ticket has the time stamped on it but I'd like you to think first of all about the péages today. The majority are unmanned and it is only at the major ones on the autoroutes that there is a gendarmerie. What actually happens, and how this old wive's tale startted, is that they set up a radar control a couple of kilometres from the péage and radio ahead your number so they pull you over as you stop to pay your ticket. However, especially if you are going to Le Mans or the Classic, you'll find plod out in force with mobile radars to catch you. The french did a survey on people caught on fixed radars and found that over one third were foreigners so they are getting very annoyed that people come over and think they can completely forget the french speed laws exist. But, and I repeat, the old story about timed tickets is just that - a story. It is about as true as the fact that dinosaurs still roam the earth.

Yes, Urban Myth, amazing the number who "know" this to be true tho'

Funnily enough the guy who swears by this also advises "pulling over" if you have been moving, to beat the average speed, and also boasts about cruising at 115 mph when back in UK...go figure smile
