Some different wheels would do the trick.

proberly be better posting this in the techinal part of the forum, but im gonna give it a shot here but:

when i got the car, when listening to the radio noticed the signal on it was very poor, im talking any built up area's, wooded area, hills, the reception would just fade out to the fizz like its well out of tune, now i thought it could be the radio, i was planning to change it anyway, so i bought i new headunit, thinking i had solved the problem, but the reception is just as poor with the new headunit

so me being a complete techno-dunce im ran out of idea, any suggestions that i can check out my self before having to send it off and pay some stupid price

The aeriels degrade over a period of time, water gets into the base. Buy a new one off Ebay and should be sorted.

ok if it is just a case of changing to a new ariel then that would be great, but i have been told on another forum, that cause i have changed headunit to a non standard one. that i will need a signal booster, any truth in that?

also a little case of how to get to the Ariel, all the way round it, seems to be a rubber casing, unable to twist the ariel to come off, and reading through the haynes manual, says it should be able to twist anti-clockwise, or something about have to access it via the reap passengers lights in the roof, now thats seems a bit too drastic for my mechanical ability's, surely there is an easier way

Remove the grab handles in the rear (2 screws each), and also the roof trim panel inside at the top of the tail gate. This allows you to get access to the underside of the aerial. Be prepared for skint knuckles :-) I got mine from vagparts.co.uk.

hey again, thanks for the reply, went to try your suggestion yesterday, to find there was no screws in the grab handles and as far as i can tell, there is no real way of getting to the ariel

right finally got round to spending the day sorting my car and replaced the ariel with a £12 i bought from halfords, and it has made a difference, but its still not 100%, i also managed to get to getting to the the ariel on the interior, and there is a little sqaure box from which the ariel attached to, now after a little search i can seem to find what the box is, or how much a replacement would cost

any ideas?

If you have changed the head unit to a non Audi unit, did you fit a gizmo that sends power to the Ariel amplifier? Had to fit one of these when changing the defunct radio on SWMBO’s Seat. You can get them at Halfords along with the other wiring kits.

Something like this:

http://tinyurl.com/3m54e8

It plugs into the back of the radio, and the aerial cable plugs into this. Not sure if the A3 needs this. However it was clearly listed in the Halfords shelf edge book for the wiring adapter required for the Seat radio.
