My fater went along with a friend (2 sheds) to see an S2 yesterday advertised for £5200. Apparently the Chassis, was ummm... terminal. So that being my only lead so far, with ok mileage, it seems my progression from Mini, to Polo, to TVR will have to halt at Polo for a while.

Have seen a few in the PH classified, but they seem to be a bit on the high mileage side. I know people say it doesn't really matter but, I do want somthing on the lower side, as I will be using it as my everyday and only car. Also my dad is a bit reluctant for me to go for anything with mileage that high, as I will be taking a loan to buy it. As a 2nd car with my own money ok, but not as a first with a loan. I may end with a shopping trolly. Seeing as I have applied for the loan with set amount and can't change it.

Sorry to hear that

Keep looking - one WILL turn up, it just might take some time, but it will be worth it.

They do like to be driven, and their owners do like to drive them . I wouldn't read too much in to high mileage ones, within reason.

I kind of have to play off hope against necessity. My parents really need their car back ASAP so if I can't find one soon, it may be to world of the shopping trolly for me.

Is it worth going for an S rather than an S2?

Honestly high mileage isn’t a problem, if you find a well looked after car that is far more important, my S2 was only 30k miles when I bought it and 55k ish when I sold it, Johno’s had double the mileage but he spent more time and money on it and was in better condition, I’d rather have a sweet running S with 150k on the clock than a shopping trolley!

Keep on looking mate - it's a frustrating game, but there will always be another one.

As I said before (and only my personal opinion) get as late a car as you can afford - they kept getting better!

S1 had the 2.8, simpler than the 2.9 so less to go wrong perhaps? Suspension was pretty harsh, but S3 trailing arms can replace the rusting originals (esp. as orig. no longer available!)
S1/S2 had no front inner arches (but can be retro fitted) so look out for bad outriggers - going to be worse than S3 onwards.

Fancy an S3, fancy a trip to Cheshire (nearest one to you worth talking about seen in Sprint)
56k miles (low!) A1 cond (aren't they all?)Monza Red/full Mag. leather (full seems rare!) S/S exh blah, blah etc etc. £6,500 01829 771406 eves, 07970 742245 day.

Like Podie said - just seen the Ad, not recommending it. (none of the others looked right or close enough to you)

HTH & good luck

Kieran, where did you see the car? I was pretty sure I checked out most places.

I will give the guy a ring, asap. I'm off to London i a week as I'm from there, so the whole country is pretty accessible for me. My dad can check ones out in the south.

Cheers guys!!

Wildfire - remember prices are always negotiable.

IMHO the prices in Sprint are often completely unjustifiable and the PH adverts are more realistic.

Don't worry at all about mileage; I went for a medium mileage car that had been well maintained to use as an averyday car for 2 reasons.. Firstly having been used, it was well sorted so I've not had too many problems with it. Secondly, as I'm using it everyday and putting the miles on quite quickly, I'm not loosing as much as if I'd bought one that had done half the mileage and cost me say £1000 more. If the car has been well maintained, then the miles shouldn't be a problem..

Wildfire - Yep details out the back of TVR Sprint mag.

Join by logging on to www.tvrcc.comand follow your nose! First year £36.50 I think, then drops to £30 or thereabouts (mag is pretty good and worth the dosh alone). Loadsa ads, but as mentioned, can be high, expect up to 20% higher than worth - some budge some won't (think this applies to all ads really). £6.5k is good price though IMHO (depending on what it's really like!). I would expect £7k for a really good S3, others appear to think they're worth £9+! I rang one in Essex with a price of over £10k and asked if it was a mistake as V8Ss for less - "No, it's a really good one and it's worth it" not to me, thank you very much!

If you're nationwide, send me a fax no. and I'll send you the page with all Ss on (email me thru' my profile)
