Yes, PH has problems. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate it's really frustrating.

They are not a result of lack of investment as some have suggested (lots of lovely kit was bought and installed recently).

Those with longer memories will remember I went through some rough patches in the past (pre-sale) as the site has grown from 0 visitors a month to 2 million. It's been quite a journey from a design point of view.

Pete, Will and I have been working night and day on this. Some of the problems are attributable to growing pains (classifieds particularly - I designed it to cope with 10,000 ads, it's now doing 50,000 and some parts of it are creaking). Some of it is down to the configuration of our slave databases and ensuring they are doing as much work as they are capable of.

Please bear with us. If throwing money at it was the solution I'd be banging on doors now asking for a cheque to be written. It's not, we just need to solve the problems. We have (believe it or not) made significant progress in identifying and eliminating the bottlenecks and will continue to beaver away until it's slick again.

Thanks for your patience.

A legendary thread that was. Think we had to get rid of it in the end.

Well it seems much better today so credit to you all, although the classified advance search is still down.

Do you know when its likely to be back up and running? Its a pain trying to search through the 1,000s in the Golf GTI section when I'm trying to look at the small number of Golf Rallye adverts.

Keep up the good work.

It should hopefully be back soon

In the mean time, If you go to the Golf GTI section then click on the 'Filter' tab you will be able to search within the subcategory according to keyword/price/distance/etc

We have identified the issue. Pete and Will are now reviewing my suggestion for resolving it to ensure it makes sense and has no side-effects.

There's a bit of work required to restructure how we store some data before it can be implemented.

Hopefully we're no more than a few days away from seeing it live.
