As from the 1st July it is compulsory to carry a fluorescent jacket and a triangle in France. 24 hour race goers won't be affected this year but take note for next year please. Since the Classic is in July you'll all need one. Standard 90 euro fine if not carrying one.

I thought that had been law for years, I also seem to remember having to carry a triangle in the seventies in France.

Lowdrag,

Is it one jacket per driver only or one for each passenger too?

It's been one jacket per occupant, this shouldn't be too much trouble as you can pick them up for a few pounds each.

Nope, you only need one jacket, but it needs to be accesible without getting out of the car which means not in the boot. I keep one in the luggage net behind the seats in my Elise.

You are correct. The flouro jacket will fit just behind or under your seat even in the TVR ... and it is one jacket for each person.

Sleeveless is fine. As long as you have one for each person plus the triangle no problem.

Well, thats me buggered in the Chim then.

Does it have to be a full on jacket, or will a vest do?

I can only assume that the warning triangle can stay in the boot?

(yes, I know that that is a stupid question, but I would rather know for sure than assume).

Vest is fine, the wording in the legal stuff is 'gilet de sauvtage' which is a sleveless jacket. Just shove one behind the seat or in a door pocket, the warning triangle can stay in the boot as before smile

Big article in the local paper today. It's 90 euros PER ITEM, so four up and no triangle is 450 euros. Here the triangle is selling in Norauto (like Halfords here) for 5 euros and the safety jackets for 3 euros. Might give you a point of comparison for english prices.

lowdrag, is it definitely 1 vest per person? I was told by a Frenchman that it was just one vest for the car when I asked.

If you have a look here

http://www.preventionroutiere.asso.fr/shared/cmd.a...

It says one vest for the driver and a warning triangle. They recommend you have one for the passengers but it is not compulsory.
