Just finished doing both of mine with a "dremel" fitted with a small sanding attachment. I'd left both as plain ally for a while but decided I prefer the wood effect. Having seen the prices quoted for "genuine" wood replacements I've used some of the self adhesive wood effect trim you get from the m*x power department in Halfloads (about £20 as I recall). You have to butt-join it as comes in a 50 cm length but it looks good now its complete. I'm going to do the switch panel on my V8s as well as I have enough left and its starting to look a bit tatty too!
All Done, I coated in paint stripper to remove the top coat, then rubbed the undercoat off with a finishing block down to a fine grade , then a couple of coats of clear laquer.
Look much better than the the chipped off wood effect.
I had put the job off as I thought getting the door panels off would be a nightmare, but in fact it was very easy.
My original dash has had the wood removed some time ago and a silver "vynil" (SP)has been added, which has been done well and now the door trims match, superb !
Cheers for you respones
