Yep ,it actually happened...when GM took control of Lotus in the 80s they inspired the LOTUS CARLTON/OMEGA and on the other side of the pond they designed the LT5 powered 4 cam 32 valve Corvette commonly known as the ZR1,which coincidently broke 12 world records one of which was the 24 hour Endurance @175.885 MPH for 4,221.256 miles.
Production lasted 5 years of which just under 7,000 units were made,some time after GM and Lotus parted company.

A freind told me recently,that the americans at the time of the ZR1 conception thought Lotus stood for,Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious.
