Hi

I'm a complete novice at using both of these programs I currently have works database. Is there any tutorials online.

I need to create a huge database which includes 5 fields to fill in but i need it to be quick and easy to fill in and update is their a quick way of entering data on this? As it seems really fiddly

Is there any decent templates i can just load up into it and then just alter it the way i want when i have i?

If i am creating huge databases is their any other "exceedingly" good programs i should consider? Is it worth getting Access as at the moment i only own Works Database.

Thanks

define huge database..

for small stuff with quite a few records & only 5 fields, works would probably be just fine.

Access would be better

but if you really are going to hold lots of data SQL is the way forward - there are plenty of free open source databases.. mysql or you can go the microsoft route depending your what you are familiar with.

What? You are thinking of having a database without a professional to specify it, design it, set it up, populate it, manage it and then hand it over to a DBMS Admin who will tune it, tweak it, reorganise it and reindex it?

You must be mad.

Use Excel.

Use MySQL and an ASP/php script to run from a web browser.

What is it with your threads? I appreciate you are keen to learn anything and everything, but you can use Google instead of posting umpteen times.

I wouldnt touch Works with a bargepole.
As for tutorials, a simple search on Google will teach you more than anyone on here could ever teach you in a thread.

Use Access.

A 5 field DB will take seconds to create and will be better suited to expansion or work on the data later on.

Seriously, don't use Excel.

Use Works if you that's all you have...but Access would be better. MySQL would be better again, but trickier depending on your knowledge.

How "huge" are you talking? The last huge database I worked with was >100 million rows, > 100 tables, and ran across multiple continents, with live access and reporting functions...I'm guessing that your "5 fields" means this is slightly smaller scale, marginally?wink
