I think it depends on age of the car but on mine (2006 Cab) there is a small lever in the back of the Xenon unit that you have to move a couple of mm. I haven't actually done it but intend to in a few weeks before heading off to Spain.
I asked about getting it done at my local BMW service center and that's what I was told if I wanted to do it myself. You have to remove the cover on the back of the unit to get at it and I think you also have to take off the filler neck for the windscreen washer on the drivers side to make the access easier.
Hardest thing (so I am told) is getting the Xenon covers back.
Hope this helps.

older cars (Y or 51) - yellow rotary switch on the back of the unit.

newer cars (02 on) - open cover on back of unit, white switch inside - awkward.

I have done this and would suggest a little caution.
There is bloody high voltages in there and the only way I could determine which was which was to turn them on and play with the switch.

The tab - springs back into a central position after you have moved it so you need to identify which way you should move it for driving on the other side and which way for the UK.

If someone cares to ask BMW or knows the answer it would be soooo simple - apart from getting the covers back on as suggested.

One of the levers you have to move up, and one move down (can't remember which way round though) laugh
You will notice then that the beam doesn't flick to the left and is just flat, i.e:

Before:
\.... \....

After:
..... .....

If you have the little rotary cap on top of the light housing, then take it off (with the ignition off) and gently move the levers towards the centre of the car for UK, towards the outside of the car for Euro.
