Hi Guys need a little help,

I have an E11v2 on my car and I paid for the car to be mapped from sctratch as this ecu had never been fitted to this car. The mapper has password protected it and he won't give me the password. He is too far away for me to keep going back and forth to do little changes.

For instance I need to increase the rad fan cut off temp as the fans wont turn off when in traffic its couple of deg out. Also and the most anyoing parts is that the E11 has on board data logging which you can't use without the password (you can data log on a lap top but not direct onto the ECU).

Does anyone know of any type of sotware I can use to crack the password or a way I can look in the ECU to find the password file so I can load it into a cracker, I don't want to have to get a local tunner to reverse engineer my map.

After all I payed for this map so I should have access to it?

Thanks
(Rant over)

Is this meant to be in the Aus section...no matter!

I have heard of tuners locking an ECU before. Most people think its so you have to go back to them and get bent over your bonnet for a minor change but its not really.

People run in to arguments about property rights and who actually owns what.
I think the tuners generally take the side that say Microsoft would do with a dodgy copy of windows...You might own the ECU (or windows computer and backup disc) but its the tuners programme on there so therefore he/she owns said programme and dont want other people copying it and charging less than them for it.

Some tuners also do it to protect themselves from a numpty owner plugging in their laptop thinking they can make it better, making a mess, running their engine lean and detonating a piston in to oblivion....and then taking the car back ranting and screaming the tune they paid for blew their engine up....oh at the same time calling all and sundry to pass the word around that "so-and-so cant tune cars and blows engines up"....

The car scene here in Perth is very small and close knit...Ocasionally rumours will flare up about a workshop or tuner blowing engines but its largely just poo stirring and coming from someone who tried to mess with things themselves or not telling the tuner the full story with their car.

The Haltech ECU is I believe "Australian", Which Is why I posted it on here.

I don't want anything to do with the map, but I can't data log or change any output settings for IC fan and Rad fans. I Know nothing about mapping so I would touch it.

The Point is he is miles away and its not practical, I even said to him that we could get the local tuner to sign a NDA so his map is protected.

If he doesn't let it up then the local tuner will put it on the RR connect lap top for data logging and look at all the points then load a base map and re map it "With no Password" then the original mapper will lose the map as the car is not finished yet and I won't give him the complete finished article out of spite.

ahhh yes...I think it is an aussie computer.

I'm the same as you when it comes to ECU's...or vehicle electics full stop actually.

I will post about your problem in another forum I frequent though. There are some very very smart blokes on there who might be able to help.

Thanks,

I'm going to speak to the Computer bods at work. I have password cracking software but I need the password file. The ECU connects to the lap top to show data (for logging and fault finding) So there must be away to see what is in the ECU memory and find the password file.

Cheers

The answers coming back from the other forum I asked on are probably not what you want to hear...basically the only way to get rid of the password is to wipe the ECU clean and start again.

Perhaps your tuner would be willing to remove the password providing you sign something to say that any changes to the map are your own responsibility?

There was the suggestion to get on the phone to Haltech and say you bought the ECU second hand only to find the existing and completely unsuitable map is password protected...they might then be able to give you a way in.

Thanks,

I did put a post on the Haltech Forum and I agree it looks like I may have to start again.

I also have mentioned to the tuner that the local Garage sign a NDA so his map is protected.

Oh well I shall await his reply.

Thanks again

Thanks,

Its wasn't a tuning house as such but a fellow Noble Owner who sells RR's and maps cars in his spare time. (you may know him).

I wouldn't yet, give him a chance to get back to me with my request. i don't want to upset him.

Only if absolutly refuses to do it shall I pursue other options.
