Mercedes extended warranty
Discussion
Just got the paaper work for the 1 year used car mercedes warranty (tear 1 coverage) and been offerd the chance to exstend the cover for and extra 1 year for £730 (so 2 years in all) or £1700 (3 year in all) for £1700. Is it worth the money ? I would be tied to having the car serviced by mercedes rather than an indi (cant see myself using an indipendent any way) and it would also stop me having it DMS stage 2 tuned.
Do I pay out the money for peace of mind ?

My 2003 SLK32 AMG has only covered 27250 miles and I've always had an extended warranty.
This year they want over £900. I can't afford to trade the car in for anything with the same performance - so with the cost of MB spares and repairs being what it is, it seems like a worthwhile investment.

my E55 has just come back from its 3rd warrany claim, 1 new light unit (broken high voltage wire that corrupted some soft ware)1 new intercooler pump and 1 seat memory unit. Bet I would not have had much change from £1500 ?They must have spent 5 hours trying to sort out the software codes.
Still hasnt been cheap motoring, 1 set of back tires, 2 front brake disks and brake pads all round and only 2200 miles from a `c` service.
note to myself, must slow down......

So far I've had a new supercharger clutch, new pulleys to stop an annoying squeak (now returned ), replacement supercharger coolant pump, and most recently, two new front suspension legs - I reckon there's about £10,000 of work there!! It cost me a total of £50 for a new ancillary belt. So, an extended warranty is worth it - but mine came with the car anyway.

Had mine for 3.5 years and spent about £200 when I fixed the seat heaters myself. Get it serviced at an Indi so I reckon I have saved £2500 in warranty and around £1000 in overpriced oil changing. So if something big goes I've got £3500 to spend. This year they want over £900. Regarding the DMS stage 2 - l'm looking to buy a SL55 AMG from a dealer fairly soon with a Mercedes warranty and was going to get DMS to do their stage 2, but from what you've said it will invalidate any warranty? Is this correct? What about going for the stage 1 instead? ls that worth doing or just go the full hog and having the stage 2 done?
Also, with MB warranties, does all servicing have to be done by a Dealer? What other restrictions are there?
Cheers.....
