Ah ha...there is another ! You'll be relived to know that i've just done this convertion myself mate.
Some of the parts that instantly spring to mind that you'll need are:-

  • `Regular` 6 speed g`box.
  • Peddle box - although i've been informed that you could simply connect a clutch peddle to the existing one.
  • Gear lever and surround.
  • Center consoul trim.
  • Insturment binnicle. (to get rid of the SMG display) - then remember to get the milage correction sorted.
  • Engine tempature sensor.
  • Engine wiring loom.
  • Fabricate a bracket at the rear of the gearbox area.
Despite what you may have herd, you WILL NOT need a different clutch and flywheel - mine has the `Origional SMG jobbies` in there still and drives like a dreem.

It's kinda funny that your's has gone now too as there are a few others that i know of that are in trouble recently - since mine has been converted - but, when i was in the troubles with mine i couldn't really find out any solid info on the convertion.

Drop me a PM with your number on and i'll give you a call and try to clear the smoke a bit for you.

Hope the above is of some help for you.

M3J.

I had mine converted a while back , its not absolutely essential to renew the clutch assembly & flywheel but I did have the New Clutch & new Dual mass flywheel as i thought it would be just my luck that a few months down the line the clutch fails , so for my peace of mind I did this.

While the it was being changed they also fitted the braided clutch hose & a seperate largish master Clutch cylinder which makes the clutch feel quite light & the travel less along with the higher bite point.

At the time there were no dash/dials around for a manual at a reasonable price so i still have the old SMG dash & the SMG switch & guide by the ashtray.

M3 John , how did you hook up the oil temp gauge ?

I have'nt noticed a temp sensor on the oil Pump/filter housing or did you have to install one ?

To be honest with you mate, I didn't actually do the convertion. I gave the car to my local indipendents (Highams Park Motor Co. 0208-523-3443) as i no longer have the facilities to work on a car in that manor ie off the road for a bit / up in the air on a ramp / under cover. Although, i'm confident enough in my self to do the convertion.
So with regard to the oil temp. guage, it's installed at the minute but is inactive. The garage hadn't got around to actually `wiring it up` but began to make provisions for it and they mentioned something to me about having to fit a temp. sensor. So as time for me was tight, they've agreed to do it F.O.C. when the car next goes in for a service. I'll ask questions then for you as i'm the sort that likes to know what's going on with the greasey bit'swink
