Has anyone got any experience of dealing with TSR Conversions? I like the look of some of their packages and would like to know if anyone would recommend them/have any feedback on them.

Cheers

TSR the garage in Somerset has been shutdown for months now, so unless you have a different supplier, i doubt they are available. Theres always second-hand i suppose

No TSR closed down last year, went into administration taking a lot of peoples money and had a lot of unfinished projects. The original owner Tim Styles (hence TSR tim styles racing) sold the company a couple years ago and subsequently the company went downhill. In 2006/2007 there were quite a few cases of engines giving up, i friend of mine had 2 "rebuilt" 1.8 16v engines from them at cinsiderably cost. The 1st ones bottom end died, the second one which was 3k miles old dropped 2 valve springs. There were a series of valve spring failures attributed to a "dodgy batch" however upon closer inspection of his engine if the valve springs had not failed the bottom end would have as the big end shells were incorrectly fitted and bearings were floating around in the sump!!

However - they are nwo under new management and have been running for a little while now. I have not dealt with them myself and my friend certainly wont be so i cant comment on what their engines are like now.

In all fairness the engines were never that great a spec, what kind of engine are you after???

Sounds like I might have had a lucky escape then!

I'm after a conversion to either an Alfa or Subaru boxer for a Karmann Ghia replica which is to be a daily driver and commuter. Not after mega power and don't really fancy a tuned VW aircooled 4.

Any suggestions (other than to give up or do it myself, although the latter isn't out of the question...)?

Cheers

I know who you mean, its not the TSR these guys are on about. The one you want put the Scooby motors in bugs and its run by a chap called Andy Raw who races one in the VWDRC.

One of my mates races with them and their work is good and they're all good lads. Have a look at their website...

Get yourself down to one of the VWDRC rounds and have a chat with them. There are loads of people running Scooby motors in bugs now and they'd all be happy to give you the low down on the conversion/which motors best to go for etc.

Thanks for that, and sorry to everyone else for any confusion! I'll have to try and get to a meet, have a look at some of their work and have a chat.
