Nice piece. One thing about air power, the price is right....just maybe not very torquey
Sorry, this maybe hijacking your thread but why is unleaded say £1.12 p/l and derv £1.22 p/l? Is it because most oil burners do more mpg (l) and the government want everyone to share the misery???
It's my understanding (I'm sure some of you technically minded guys will put me straight) that derv takes less refining than 95 or 97 ron. Can there really be a justification for a 10 - 12 ppl price difference between petrol and derv?? I'm not a lover of oil burners but I am very curious. Remember a few years ago all the bigwigs were ramping up the virtues of derv motors. Anyone that's driven behind a routemaster bus knows that's cobblers but even so.....then, derv was a penny or so CHEAPER than petrol!!!
And another thing, what about this 2.5% chip fat in every litre of anything you wanna buy (that was all a bit stealth bomber too, I didn't know about it until it was done, obviously not reading the right headlines). Are there long term implications to burning shite in your very expensive finely tuned motor?????

Modern ultra low sulphur diesel takes a fair bit of post refinement to make so even though the actual refining process is cheaper its the bits after that add up.
ULS diesel was added in order to benefit from a lower tax burden - old fashioned diesel was taxed more than the ULS Diesel. However in various budgets your friendly local labour govenrment have all but reduced the difference to zero effectively pushing up prices.
Finally, demand for diesel/oil covers a more varied number of uses than petrol (domestic heating, agriculture etc) and overall demand is going up.
