OK OK. The V8 is half of the heart and soul of an Ultima. But it's kind of a fun thought. Battery issues aside, imagine the torque, power, and control with an electric motor on all four wheels. An all-electric 4WD Ultima would be a monster in the 1/4 mile drag. No gears to change, and computer controlled torque to eliminate wheel spin. Now go build it! laugh

A good idea! I seem to remember a guy in the US doing an electric Ariel Atom?

As part of my job is in electric power drive systems..I actually did work some numbers on this a while back using a single motor driving the rear wheels only. A electric motor delivers good torque at zero speed and across the speed range..but then again, you can get the same good torque at zero speed by revving the V8 and using that clutch thing!

Weight of the batteries and motors are the killers with leccy power..but no emmissions or noise issues for the SVA I guess?!

..needless to say I chose GM LS power rather than the Electrolux offering!

Turbo electric (small gas turbine driving an alternator and motor) is the best for ultimate power and low weight. Chrysler did a protopype Le Mans contender a few years back.

There was a guy that built an all electric Factory Five Coupe. Honestly, it was a very low budget build so the quality wasn't there. But he got it working and is hooking up with some Cobra mftr (not Factory Five) to offer it as a build option. He is a very bright engineer that has all the skill and knowledge to do this, but keeps running out of money to do it promote it the right way.
Here is his web site with tons of pictures of his various all electric projects.

If you want to contact him, his name is Michael and his address is on the website.
