Starter motor died today, I laughingly got the crank handle out of the boot to show the RAC man what a 'classic' I owned. I then started to crank it just for a giggle... and bloody started it. Bah! Starter motors, who needs 'em.

They should still be fitted on cars today.

I had a classic RR back in the 80s that was a real pain to start using the starter when hot but would start easily with the handle. It turned out to be a distributor problem. But it was comforting to know I had a backup should the starter fail.
