I purchased a 1990 350i from a marque specialist 18 months ago, it was expensive at £8,500 but it has only covered 25k (full history etc) and is mint. In the meantime my wife has had a baby and given up work, this combined with virtually zero use over this glorious summer has made me realise that the TVR is an asset I can no longer afford. Before I advertise can anyone suggest what is the likely market value, and what the advertised price should be ?
Thanks
Keith

Keith,
Check out Autotrader to get a feel but I'd think if it's as stunning as your note sais then if (big if) you can get someone to view it you may get something in the 7's so you'd need to start at £7,995. However, there are some good tidy cars out there at £5,995 with tatty jobs in the £3,000 region so you may end up in the £6,000 area. If you can afford it hang on to it you'll be surprised how much of a laugh it is to go out for a Blat. I had a 400SE last year (paid £9,250 spent >£2k on it) my wife had our little lad in November so sold the 400 for £8k in the spring but couldn't be without a road going Wedge (I've a few sheds which are'nt on the road) so bought another one within weeks.

Values are depressing for owners but I think that TaS is spot on.

Its a buyers market - I intend to swap my wedge for a Griff or Chimp and expect to take a big loss from what I paid as I'd rather p/ex than have the hassle to sell privately. Then again, I enjoy my car so much I often think to myself why change it?

I haven't driven a Griff yet maybe my opinion will change. The Chimp I drove didn't seem as quick as my 350 though felt a little more comfy.

Bear in mind that the just because someone is asking a certain price for their wedge doesn't mean they are going to sell it at that price.

There are a few wedges that have been for sale for some months now - on PH, Auto Trader and others - I reckon if you really need to sell your wedge then you have to drop the price - otherwise you will end up just having it up for sale for ages.

I would love it if wedges were sought after and cherished TVR's worth all the effort and expense that goes into them - fact is they are not and those of us who think they are (like me) just have to accept that if we sell them we will loose money!

Andy,
Are you mad? Ditching a Wedge for a Griff/Chimp. You'll get the Wedge Forum in a lather

One possible may be to sell via an independent - some are willing to do sale or return (eg Peninsula in Devon) they will take the hassle out of viewings and any test pilots, they offer finance and give prospective buyers piece of mind when buying. You may be surprised at how much they will agree to return you for a decent example.
