Focus 1.8 Gearbox Oil

Car has done about 75K 1.8 Zetec 2001 there is abit of oil on the bottom of the gearbox but nothing to worry about, my question is how do you check the oil level in the gearbox, should the oil be changed if so what sort of milage and with what type of oil.

Box is the type without lock for selecting reverse.
