Have some build questions.
· When fitting the fuel fillers with the rubber funnel do you still use the cork gasket and if so, where?
· How are the tanks vented? There is a brass vent pipe (currently blanked off) in the side of the rubber filler funnel but as no pipe is supplied to fit then I suspect it is not used.
· The factory fuel kit does not include a link pipe for the bottom of the two tanks. Should I buy and fit one?
· The A/C pipe that comes from up front and arrives at the drier has a right angle fitting on the end. Where it meets the drier it is pointing 180 deg. out from the boss on the drier. No amount of twisting and pulling at the pipe fixes the problem as it is already bonded/sealed into the firewall. Can I get away with twisting the fitting in the crimp on the end of the pipe? I’ve had a go but it will not move easily.

Thanks
Steve

Have a look at James Crewe's site - www.m250.co.uk/june.htm which says you discard the cork gasket and the vent should be opened out and a pipe fitted.

Their standard setup assumes you use one - according to the build manual 'Ultima recommend that a link pipe is installed between the tanks using the upper connections. This will act as a fail safe should one of the one way valves built into the petrol pumps fail or leak in service.

Can't help on the aircon hose, sorry.

The gasket fits between the body and the fuel cap mounting ring. ( down in the recessed area).
The aircon hose loops down and then up. the dryer is mounted higher than where the hose comes through the chassis. I called the factory often for questions that are un-answered in the manual or CD.

I linked the two fuel tanks with a -06 and the lower end and a -12 about 3/4 the way to the top to allow filling both from either side.

I mated the metal filler flange directly to the filler funnel and placed both of them in the recces of the body. This prevents direct contact of the fuel and body.

Tanks are vented with a small hose that opens to atmosphere and leads out the bottom of the car.

I don't have A/C

whilst on this topic, I seem to remember the new Mini One being recalled for some electrical "earthing" problem associated with the fuel filler.

Does anyone have details of this and is there any relevance to the Ultima?

The Mini One recall was because it was possible for a fuel pump nozzle to receive an earth spark from the filler nexk as it wasn't insulated properly (paint finish that flakes off IIRC).

The Ultima fuel links (filler to tank) are rubber and the filler caps are mounted into GRP, so there's no way that any current could reach the filler anyway.

Hello colour prejudice again!. I was motoring around your area yesterday trying to upset the locals. Its nice to have a bright car around your small country lanes. I nearly had to scrape a Volvo off my fender.
I will send you a picture of the beast (can't work out how to get it onto forum).

It's something to do with your browser and/or any network web cache. It'll get there eventually. You can force it along by opening Stig's icon in a window by itself and pressing Refresh/Reload whilst holding down the shift key.

Nice looking car...like the backdrop too!

Found 55-60's F. is the best ambient temp as long as you're in short pants and sleeves
