Few questions, Please help

just found the Ultima and I'm obsessed.
Has anyone used a Mendeola sequential trans? can you use a mendeola?
if not whats the best trans for 650HP?
anyone know what the HP was of the car that set the TopGear track record?
What do you think is optimum HP for this car?
Mostly going to use it on the track - what upgrades do you suggest?
Any GTR's in Arizona? would love to see one in person. email me F40@cox.net
thanks for all your help.

The factory Top Gear car is a 720chp American Speed motor.
For an average joe like me, I find 500hp ample, but there is always that straight on track where you twiddle your thumbs and wish for more power.
Lots of guys are now building 6-700 LS7s and I think they might have it spot on.
As far as performance upgrades, I just pick from the factory list. Tyres make the biggest difference IMO, and then there is the harder 'top gear' springs (made only about half a second difference say the factory).
But the beauty is you can do as little or as much as you want!! Check Can-Am Dave's car to see what I mean!!!
Most people opt for the Small Block Chevy and G50 gearbox which is the factory recommendation. The LSX range of engines is a derivative of this and very suitable. More people use different engines than gearboxes. Engines are more often than not V8's - Audi, Lexus, BMW, etc...
Good luck!
Good luck!
Tim.

Hi Tim
I currently run about 650BHP and have recently changed to a new transaxle to cope with the extra power and more importantly the torque. I run about 700lbs of torque so I went for a G96-50. I already had a six speed cable change box so that was part of my reason for this box but the main one is that with its 9" ring gear it can handle all that torque. I had it built by CMS (California Motorsports). I am very happy with it so far.
Regards Dave

There is a Mendeola transmission that is suitable for the Ultima coming soon but it is NOT a sequential box. It is called the SDR. Jeff Schwartz will have one installed in his Ultima soon, I think. The trans initially will be a 5 speed with a 6 speed option coming later. The transmission will have a built in cooling pump or come with a electric pump. Mike Mendeola feels that keeping the transmission cool is extremely important. The transmission will have the option of either a full size bell housing for LSx engines or a smaller "button" bell housing for the multi disk clutches. The transmission will handle 650 RWHP. There will be a parts buy back program available so a 6 speed upgrade won't require a new transmission. You can get the specs on the SDR transmission on the Mendeola web site. One of the most exciting features of the transmission is the "Pull/Pull" shifter. They are hoping it will be a very positive and smooth shifting mechanism. No pushing of cables to move the shift forks, all movement will be done by pulling the cables. I am installing a SDR transmission in my FactoryFive GTM with a built LS2 engine.
in referance to the Albins gearboxes and the sandrails. this weekend is the anual runningof the fink desert race in central australia. Toyota are sponsoring a car/buggy, 3.5ltr twin turbo v6 700hp albins sequential box. looked to be a good bit of kit.
there is a few photos of it up on the fink site.
