My missus does part time beauty....after getting ged up with 9-5.
She's lucky enough to have a purpose build salon at her parents house otherwise the cost of leasing a shop + overheads would be too expensive.
It depends on what they are having done on their nails but the problem with nails is, is that generally it takes far longer than a dinner break to anything...which means most custom is after 5pm.
Unless you are somewhere where the rich ladies have their nails done every week without fail, it is very difficult to cover salaries and rates.

A friend (hairdresser) rents out the corner of her salon (the building is too large for her but business isn't good enough to use the space) for a few peak periods a week to a 'nail bar' type thing. Seems to work OK for both parties. I suspect HMRC are not involved.
The speed with which the 'black leather settees, spot lights, funky painting and opaque glass' versions open and shut suggests to me that it is not an easy option.
Most people have now realised that nail bars offering a cheap in and out service, usually carried out by korean/chinese girls, actually harms their nails.
The Mrs has a salon in Ealing, W London and a lot of new clients over the 12/18 months have given her the feedback that they used to use nail bars but have now realised that while convenient, they weren't very good.
As for equipment costs - a few of the suppliers also advertise on eBay - have a look for nail stations, pedicure chairs, etc.

I know what you mean. My missus started off by not using drills which is normal for Korean/Chinese nail technicians. But she does drill for clients that swear by this method because they don't know any different. The Mrs has a salon in Ealing, W London and a lot of new clients over the 12/18 months have given her the feedback that they used to use nail bars but have now realised that while convenient, they weren't very good.

An engineer at a toolmaking company that recently built me a machine has left his job to set up a nail bar. I don't know how he will possibly break even when you consider he must have earned in excess of £30k.
My missus also has a portable table so she can go to her clients houses.

Worst is using superglue to hold on false nails because 'it's stronger' !Nails are a time consuming, labour intensive headache.
Unfortunately people want them done so the wifes place only uses to quality product and charges enought to make it worthwhile.

Girls think that they should be able to have 2 inch false nails stuck on without them effecting their every day lives...

Anyone know much about them? set one up etc?
I'm talking a kind of quick in, quick out manicure/pedicure place.
Ta.
In my humble oppinion they are fronts for laundering drug money. Same with tanning saloons and the like. I'm talking a kind of quick in, quick out manicure/pedicure place.
Ta.
After a few years with a nice set of accounts they sell them on to unsuspecting buyers who wonder where all the 'goodwill' went.
Lots in Liverpool.
