Closely related to Montpelier, but designed to help avoid the new Agency "issues".

Any contractors using them?

Montpelier was fine and vouched for these guys but I seriously can't find anyone that has heard of them let alone using their services.

Cheers

"Agency issues" - i.e. UK businesses refusing to deal with Montpelier is possibly the least of your worries...BN66.

What do you want to achieve by using such a setup? Avoid paying tax or avoid the supposed hassle of running a Ltd company?

Just looking for some feedback from contractors who have dealt with the company.

With BN66 raging on I have setup a limited company and am using SJD Accountancy as recommended by so many. In all honesty I'm neither finding them that helpful or easy to work with.

sorry - re-read your post, fair point. In the words of Manuel "I know nothing" (About Montpellier). smile

What's the going rate for an accountant to get you going as a LTD Co?

Don't use an accountant to set up your own company. Do it yourself using one of the many Internet services available. It can cost as little as £30 to £40.

However, DO have an accountant in the background giving you set up advice as there are other issues besides the basic company formation that need sorting -

notifying HMRC for Corporation Tax
setting up for PAYE
setting up for VAT
deciding on a remuneration strategy
basic book-keping and accounting requirements
general business and legal advice

SJD are one of the more expensive "faceless bookkeepers" out there, but to be fair have a pretty good reputation.

I pay less to use another "contractor specialist", which really means paying a monthly fee to ensure that all paperwork is kept in order, based upon input from details I provide. More of a sausage factory than an accountant, but it works for me.

Most (not sure on SJD) will set up a Ltd Co free of charge providing you agree to stay with them for 12 months, and again most will provide all that Eric listed above as part of their fee.

I've been with my accountant for over 6 years, including a couple of HMRC investigations that required plenty of effort on their part, all for no extra charge.

Hmmm... why were you investigated?

Was it something your accountants did?

Not at all, so it wasn't a case of them digging me out of a problem of their creation.
